Yeah, I'm kind of over letting the State punish me for shit other people do. Guys, save your lecture for someone who gives a shit. If it's private property I'm not going to go near it, but tell your buddies to mark it with a sign saying as much. If it's a gate that obviously leads to public land and it's locked, I'm going to leave an empty box of fucks and a broken chain next to it (will still close it behind me though).

How am I being an internet tough guy? I'm on Otay Mountain a lot, am starting to know the area well, and simply telling you what's what when I'm down that way.

Gotcha, don't give a shit about our trails. Hear ya loud and clear. Thanks for being part of the solution, and not the problem.

^ Fact of the matter is, you have no idea who I am or the care I take when I'm on a trail, let alone what gates I'm talking about or the reasoning I use when deciding to open one up. Not that that ever stopped anyone (especially on this site) from getting up on their internet soap box to grace us all with their moral authority, but that's how it is. Most people get bothered when someone else thinks for themselves instead of lock stepping with the rest of the crowd. I get it. I truly do.

At any rate, stop and say "hi" if you ever see anyone in a Tacoma parked up top that mountain. Might just be me, and I've yet to have an unpleasant chat with a stranger up there yet.

You're right, we're asking a lot from people that are capable of so little. what we need more of, is people that think for themselves as opposed to the big picture. Again, thank you for doing as little as possible.

Cigars and bourbon at Doghouse junction? How does that work? Isn't that like drinking and driving?

Works easy with moderation. You just don't get shit faced and also stop drinking a couple hours before heading back down.

Kind of wondering how long you've participated in this thread. I also don't understand the reasoning behind coming across this way to those in your local area. If you can't see the logic behind Jeff's post then I'm not sure what to say. Private property owners should not have to put up a sign so people don't cut their locks; people should just not cut locks. I don't think this is moral high-horsing it. Don't destroy others property is pretty basic in the moral code we ascribe to as law abiding citizens. I'm sure you're probably a fun guy to hang out with and wheel with; you just aren't coming across that way right now.

EDIT - I know you said you only cut gov. locks - but that seems unlikely.

^ There's plenty of logic in his post, but the subject is quite a bit grayer than his simpleton's response, amounting more or less to putting his fingers in his ears and repeating himself. It would seem that in worlds like his, people are either exactly like him or they're out dumping toxic waste on the trails kicking puppies and I've just got no tolerance for that kind of stupidity. Get enough of that crap from the anti-gun people.

Yep, government locks that have no reason being there, but fuck all if there's a point making that clear to you given how "unlikely" you seem to think that is. That's why I said to stop and say hi, by the way. You get a different perspective on people when you actually meet them and have an actual conversation instead of just talking shit anonymously on the internet.

Hi - I'm Matt. I'm at most of the meets we have. Im not anonymous. But I still don't get your attitude in this thread. It's as if you want to be known as a jerk rather than being able to see others points of view and have an adult discussion about them. I don't know why your care to bash people in here bc they say you probably shouldn't do something. Happy to carry this on in person at our next meet and then you may realize everyone in here is generally looking out for the greater good of what we like to do.

I just hate it when people fence off property that isn't theirs and because of where they are located it's not contested. Especially when people plant stuff there and feel entitled to the property as being theirs.

Not being from san diego (born and raised in Central Cal) the coolest thing I think about San Diego is all the open land. A lot of the land up north (western slope of Sierras) is private property. Down here in San Diego there is so much more open land to explore. I would hate to see more and more locked gates
