My truck was idling in the parking lot in front of my office when we literally heard a sound like a bomb just went off! Smoke was POURING out from hoo and fluorescent green liquid leaking underneath. I turned it off. The cab was even full of smoke! My radiator coolant is red, so it had to be a/c oil. Sure enough something in the a/c system exploded! I have never had any issues before. Since the day I brought it brand new it has blown cold air. I have never had the a/c serviced, the drain works fine, no hoses are rubbing on anything. Isn't there a release valve in the system? Anyone have any idea what happened? Anyone ever experienced this before?

No pulleys are damaged, no nose from compressor when it happened. It runs fine, of course I have not turned the a/c back on. I have no idea what happened. I'm going to try to bring it to a friend shop in the morning.

Oh, and temperature gauge read normal.

BTW, anyone know how corrosive that oil is? It coated my whole truck, I washed it when I got home then brought it to carwash. I just had it painted like a year ago.

Loud is an understatement. LOL! The entire building thought a bomb went off!

This is why I love doing undercarriage inspections at night. I washed and rewashed my truck after it happened. I let it dry. In day time I couldn't find ANYTHING! When you use a flashlight you have the benefit of shadows, plus you concentrate on just the area the beam covers. I just crawled under it again, I think I found the cause or at least one of the issues. There was a slit in one of the rubber lines that was hardly visible. When I bent it from underneath the slit got larger so I am pretty sure that was the weak spot. My camera battery is dead, I'm charging it now. As soon as I can I'll post a pic. Like I said, I know that is at least one weak spot, I hope it didn't ruin other components. What is you guys opinion, do I need to change the drier to, or can I just have the line replaced.

I really can't even describe the sound it made when it exploded, I mean literally everyone in the building heard it and came running outside!

Funny you mention AC exploding. I work as a diesel mechanic and one night was working on a truck.
Was outside for a few minutes and came back in and shop was full of what looked like smoke or dust.
I went to the back shop to see wtf the other guys were doing. I noticed it had a familiar smell to it
but just hadn't hit me yet. Walked back to where the truck was and seen the floor had liquid on it.
When I got by the truck there it was, an AC hose blew out and spewed oil everywhere. Makes a
huge mess. Sorry it happened to your truck, at least it was not the coolant, could have been very
    bad.

If you leave it under proper vacuum for long enough all the moisture in the drier should evaporate so you don't necessarily need to put a new one in.

In my 91 Nissan 240sx, I had a power steering hose burst open. Plumes of white smoke came pouring out from under the hood bad. I had no idea wtf just happened and I pulled over and power steering fluid was just everywhere omg. The thick smoke came from a lot of power steering fluid on the exhaust manifold. I literally thought my car was on fire and I have liability insurance.

I can relate to you that it's not a good feeling seeing your car like that.

Looks like just replace the high pressure A/C hose and recharge A/C?
