Taking about batteries, I'm looking to get another one. Looking at optima. Anything I should do different if I'm adding a winch and have an aux box wired to it?

 

My recommendation would be to buy the most battery you can afford. Get an AGM type, either Optima, Oddessy or Northstar. In the largest size that will fit. A group 24F Northstar fits perfect with the stock tie down and is one size larger than stock.

I went with Northstar this time around as you might have seen from the pics. I was a little dissapointed that my last battey, yellow top optima, lasted less that 4 years. But I did abuse it quite a bit as a single battery.

 

I like the ones that come with the @BamaToy1997 big 3 upgrade. There are two bolts for 5/16 rings on the positive terminal as well as a 1/0 and (2) No.8 holes for raw wire. It has three bolts for 5/16 ring terminals on the negative side, plus the voltmeter and a plastic cover for the positive side.

Yeah, I hear ya on that. But in fairness, Batteries have a hard life in the desert. High heat is their enemy.

 

New TRD decals. Truck is squatting because bed is loaded with 800+ lbs

 

More work on the trans skid since I am getting together with my buddy who has a welder next week.




Only boxing the center section really. Don't need to go nuts on this skid.

 

I got tired of my spare axles banging around so I grabbed some Styrofoam and nested them into these waterproof containers.

 

Two trail spares? Not likely you'll need more than one, since left and right are interchangeable.

 

Better to have and not need than need and not have? Especially if your buddy needs a CV. Or you were locked up front and grenaded both at the same time.

 

Not that anyone has done that recently... Most spares= more fun. With the way mine eats CVs iv been using the reman autozone ones and warranteeing them out.

The awesome part about the ADD diff is that when a CV blows it's almost always the outer bearing cage. So you turn the wheel at full lock one way pop the boots off the outers. Turn the other way and remove the shaft from the outers and your good to drive home.

I don't know. I usually do the Edgartown 'Round the island' race that weekend. If we end up not entering the boat then I will plan on going down there. I still haven't been to rausch its still on my list.

 

These are my originals. I had torn boots a couple years ago, before I discovered TW, and just replaced them. Now I have 2 rebuilt factory axles. Nothing wrong with that.

 

I suspect those axles will end up tearing up that styrofoam. I did something similar and after all the jostling around from the trail, I ended up with styro-peanuts.

 

Closed cell foam is a great material for this sorta thing too. I always save it when I buy electronics. Great stuff, just really expensive to buy separate.

 

I installed an LED in the dome light. Currently have the resistor just wrapped around it right now. Maybe if I learn how to solder and get a soldering iron, I''ll actually do it right. But it works, so I can't complain. After just testing the LED in the map lights, it seems they work without a resister. I put new standard bulbs in there, since one was busted and both were dim, but I may change them to LEDs at some point as well.

Also put in a new NAPA air filter and did an oil change. Mobil 1 + OEM filter. Productive day.
