So I'm taking my truck in to get my windows tinted and I wanted to get 10% all the way around with a visor, just scared of getting a ticket. Anyone have any trouble from the cops about their tints?

I've got 5% all the way around with 5% windshield eyebrow. Haven't been hassled about it. Awesome during the daytime keeps interior cool, harder to see at night time though.

If you go that dark youll end up rolling your windows down a lot to see around corners and in high pedestrian areas.

I live in NY and was going over the throgs neck bridge when a cop pulled me over put a sensor over my window and gave me a 100 dollar ticket. The only thing good was that it wasn't a moving violation .......the tint was more than 30 percent.....as he said it has to allow 70 percent of the light to pass.

OP, it would help if you let us 'idiots' know what state you live in. every state has different tint laws.

aside from that, i have 20% tint on my taco and the strip on the windshield in the nazi tint state of california and the cops dont even look at me. simply put, if your going too hotrod the truck around or drag attention to yourself and the truck in one way or another, the cops, leo, popo, 5-0, are going to look at you. dont drive like an idiot if you want tint. my old 08 scion xb would get messed with on occasion because i was driving like an ahole with full limo tint. just be reasonable with the tint and driving habits and the cop wont even look at you.

The issue is not getting a ticket from a cop, although that can happen. The issue is you getting into an accident and your insurance company denies coverage and you get personally sued for having illegal tint.
I would stay as close to legal as possible.

The only time I have seen people get sued and held responsible for losses is with insurance rule violations and illegal mods.

Haha sorry, Oregon is where I'm at. I know the legal % is about 32 but not much people stick with it. I really don't drive too bad, I mean I definitely got my times but so far no attention for the cops. Thank for your input!

Minnesota is 50% and you can't have anything on the windshield. I want a strip on the top of the windshield but the tint place said they couldn't do it. I gotta run to NoDak if I want it.

Damn, that's shitty! Especially at 50% there no point. They pretty strict on that if you did get them tinted?

That sucks. That's probably the most important window to put film on.
My state does not specifically state any laws regarding the windshield, just the brow, but I got tint to prevent radiation from causing me skin cancer lol so it's pointless to not get the windshield done. I got the near clear film, virtually no difference.

I got my fronts done at 50% and it's fine, I'd like to go a little darker but I also like visibility at night. I see a lot of cars that I know are over 50% so I don't think the fuzz pays much attention actually.

I was thinking that if I got the windshield done, it would probably be really hard for them to tell.

10% is too dark. You will have a hard time seeing out of your windows are night.

But wouldn't the tint on your windows mark you as a hoodlum?:beavisd:

In Ohio its 50% up front and I run 20%.
Someone on here does make a good point about the insurance thing in an accident.

Seems to me - some states differentiate between vehicles registered as TRUCKS and those as PASSENGER vehicles. Because many (most) trucks have the rear windows blocked by boxes or trailers, they don't regulate the rear at all. Rear seat side glass - no problem - only the front side glass and windshield.

I have a legal percent of tint on my truck but on my previous car I had 10%, which is illegal here (in NC). I did not worry about cops, never thought they would just pull me over for my windows being dark. The only issue I had was getting an inspection. Window tint is a check box (at least in NC) and mine wouldn't pass. I had a buddy at the time who owned a shop so he would pass me as long as I drove in with my windows down. Something to think about if that is a requirement in your state for inspections too. Once they fail you, you would have to get the tint removed for anyone to pass you again...

I live in Eugene and my windows were tinted when I got the truck, I dont know the percent but they are a little darker than I wish they were, I do behave myself most of the time but so far no trouble from the cops at all.

25% sides and rear. Never had an issue in CA or TX but I know people who have been ticketed. Most of them were pulled over for a diff violation and got the tint ticket as an add on.
