    How surprising, lol.
An engine that's designed for gobs of torque with a rev range of about 2K rpm bolted to a manual transmission isn't a barn burner to 60?
But, if it's anything like my cousin's 2500 Cummins, it's 20 seconds to 60 empty, and 21 seconds hauling a 15,000lb load. :notsure:

The farkles have started and on order
I had it checked and they put fluid in already it was 3/4 quart low. To make sure they did do the oil check and not just tell me i marked the bolts on the transmission and they were moved.

I am planing to lift it but waiting till I have at least 5k on the odometer. When I had brought it in for the slip a toyota tech came out to look at the truck and drove it and said it is working normal. I am still a little skeptical about it. There is a case # on it with toyota, so if it gets worst it is on record.

I just got mine back from the dealer they claimed it was low on fluid but they didn't know how much they actually added to it.
I took it around the block and it drives the same as it did before I dropped it off. Stil hunting for gears and it feels like it's slipping when it shifts .
They told me that the wandering is "normal" along with the wind noise from the drivers door . Although they did say there will soon be a tsb for the door seal soon .
I went to find out how much I will loose to dump it and it's somewhere in the $6500 range , so hopefully Toyota corporate works with me. One way or another I'm done with this turd

Didn't vote..... Somewhere between Satisfied and learning to live with it. I miss the low rpm torque, but the truck moves when you get on it. I think it really may be more of a Atkinson Cycle characteristic than a transmission matchup issue.

Because out west there are speed limits that exceed 70 MPH. Reno to Wendover, NV is 75 MPH. Wendover to SLC is 80 MPH. Doing 15 MPH under the speed limit isn't ideal.

Mine works fine in the city and hwy. Only issue is cruise control at 65 mph, it would downshift to 4th for god knows why, after a few seconds it will upshifts to 6th and only shift to 5th if I hit a hill. If I go 75 mph, it stays in 6th.

I agree it doesn't have the low end grunt like the 4.0. There's times I have to push the gas down a little more so it'll downshift and go. I think the mid and high range has good power but the low is lacking. Would a air intake or something help the low end torque? I did put on lighter wheels which helped a little.

Then maybe you need to look into something more suited to sustain those speeds with cruise control on.

Oh wow... That sucks.. I'm from VA as well, and have experienced this crap first hand. It sucks...
If your record is fine, the court will most likely dump it down to +15 or something, and no reckless, i have heard people getting away with more..

I was on 81 this past weekend, and people didn't shy away from 90mph.

But all i gotta say, the truck holds 80 with minor issues, you just gotta remember to step on it on a hill. I get the tranny doing badly sometimes, but saying the truck doesn't handle 80mph is bullshit.

Handles 80 fine with your foot in it, sometimes even with cruise on and no real slopes but to rely on cruise at certain speeds, the truck may jump around trying to find the right gear. Once you learn the sweetspots the truck drives just fine.

First ticket since 1995 so I plan on a reduction of some sort as I'm not a habitual offender, interstate was clear of traffic and I wasn't lane changing or in a construction zone. Just caught doing the same speed on the interstate in a location where the limit decreased and I didnt.

Have to lawyer up though to do it.

Ive never had a vehicle where the engine and trans act differently with cruise control than with your foot. But highway behavior of the transmission is definitely different on cruise control, as well as how the trans will downshift on a downhill to try and hold speed. Has anyone tried the ECT on cruise control in the 70 mph crazy shift zone?

I was one that voted "Learning to live with it, could be better", and I didnt intend it to be a negative. More of a neutral. Its definitely different than any other auto trans Ive had. But if you understand that it is trying to get the absolute best mileage all the time then it makes more sense. If you want "normal" transmission response use ECT. But if you dont mind letting it do its thing for mileage and just understand that if you want to "go now" you need to press the pedal a lot more than a normal car to get it to shift down. My gripe would be if its going to have this odd 6 th gear at 45 mph and 1100 rpm thing going on, as well as the atkins cycle stuff, I wish it had really impressive gas milage to show for it. But thats really minor for me. Its a truck and I didnt buy it for gas mileage.

I can't complain I get 23-25mpg mixed.. 21 with a lead foot. If you want to go fast switch it to s mode and row the gears over 3k rpms or hit the ect button.. If you light foot the gas pedal the truck shifts nicely.. When you're constantly on and off the pedal it's going to downshift And upshift everywhere..put it in 4th gear in s mode around 40mph or lower and it won't be searching gears

I gave up on my mpg. I know i could get around 22, but i got a really heavy foot.. So in traffic it drops to about 17-18...

I have also noticed different grades of gas will change/ alter the shift points as well. Seems like the higher octane makes it want to hit 6th gear asap...while 87 seems to wanna stay in lower gears for longer.

I drove a manual for 17 years so honestly i like the way the auto works in these trucks.....of course this is after i put 2 qt of atf in it and disconnected the battery over night.

That may be true. The ECU must be backing way off on the timing during steady speed and high gears for it to run at so low an rpm and not lug or ping.

Super disappointed. My 2005 was a beast compared to my 2016. Low end is gutless and that leads to shifting constantly. It also avoids high RPM's to save on gas (I'm guessing) leading to further frustration. If you haven't bought a 16 yet, I would seriously consider a 2013-2015. Body style is still badass, and you get a better engine/trans combo.

I don't think it's defective or anything, I just think it's how the Atkinson performs. I read the stats on the 16 and saw "more horsepower more torque" so I guess it didn't meet my expectations. It would be nice to have it stay in ECT Power mode full time so it shifts like a man's-truck instead of like a Prius.
