I just traded in my 16 trdor LB tacoma after 3 months and 4k miles. Over all I liked the tacoma this was my 5th tacoma I have owned the other 4 were 2nd gens. I didnt have any issuse with it But what I hated most was the 3.5 motor why toyota didn't update the 4.0 is really stupid. The 3.5 really has no torque the first time I pulled a trailer it sucked. I will admit I should have bought a full size to begin with but I have always loved the tacomas. I traded it for a 16 tundra crew max. I got really great trade in. My had a basic 3 inch lift they gave me 36,500 on trade so I was happy.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Sorry the truck didn't work out for you. Glad you still stayed in the Toyota family.

    Enjoy the room!

You won't be knocked for keeping within the Toyota family. Tundras are nice, and more practical for towing.

Kinda sux w the Tacoma because you know the dealer is making money on both ends of that deal which means it costed you extra cash. I get dealer have to profit so not bashing that part just that it's costing you extra coin.

But, congratulations on the Tundra. I like the Tundra. There will be a new Tacoma, Tundra or 4Runner in my future.

Post some pics of your new ride man.

It's my first Tacoma so I'm still learning, but why should Toyota have updated the 4.0 and say the 3,5 has no torque?

It has the SAME (ok 1 lb.ft. less but that's negligeable) torque and has about 40 more hp AND better gas mileage.

    What don't I understand here......

I'll never understand why some people feel the need to tell a forum they sold their vehicle. If the vehicle wasn't for you, just move on and enjoy your next ride.

A lot of folks are not taking time to learn to drive the new engine/trans combo. It does just fine when you learn to put your foot down and/or use S mode and ECT when needed.

    I agree!
ECT does make a difference. Engine and throttle feel more "nervous" and responsive.

The problem is that torque comes WAY high in the rev band. The 278 RPM comes on at 6,000 RPM. The gen 2 got it's peak HP at 5200 RPM. Big difference in driving dynamics.

True! That is exactly why there is a learning curve to drive this thing.

Not talking about the OP, but the average truck buyer is not open to change.... historically...

I had a 2007 Tundra 5.7L. It also will not get the rated MPG the sticker says but it will drag your house sideways across a dirt field.

What were you trying to pull? There is an entire thread devoted to hauling toys so I am wondering what failed for you.

3.5 isn't a truck motor, it's a minivan motor. It will work too hard doing basic truck stuff.

It all depends on what you interpret as truck stuff.
For me it's enough. Pull my ATV around and a trailer. A boat (3500lbs) sometimes.
And of course the usual furniture carrying for the "friends" every now and then. I also love the bed to carry all my hunting stuff.

    So no...I don't need a 4.0. I love the 3,5

I'm managing 14.5mpg in mine. It's rated at 13/17 so I'm within that range, mostly city driving. Biggest issue is the rear end. I could only get it in 4.30 which is way too high and makes fuel econ suffer compared to domestics that have anything from 3.08 to 3.92 tops.
