    Oh , I gotcha

It's pretty common for lumber to be slightly longer than it's stated dimension

@OZ-T Have you ever used a Paslode nailer? I found them to be more consistent than standard air powered nailers. However, reading what I just wrote, maybe I should have considered managing the air system a little more for better performance...

    No

By consistent you mean like the nails being driven with consistent force ?

The wife wants curtains in our living room. We have a set of 3 windows, meaning the curtain rod would need to be ~ 12-13ft. Can I use a scarf joint on 2 8ft wooden curtain rod poles? Or what would be the best way to splice two poles together for a 13ft run?

And position your cuts so the joint is at one of the mount locations to hide it.

I've seen those, just didn't know how strong they were. Maybe ad some Titebond with it?

Best picture I have at the moment of the area in question. I would need more than a mount on each end I take it. Probably one in the middle of the middle window?

What kind of curtain rod hardware ? Like just a wooden rod and hoops on the curtains ?

In the planning stages to redo the builders attempt at landscaping. Going to pick out everything at the nursery later this evening.

Anybody know of any less costly alternatives to decomposed granite? Not opposed to gravel of some kind/size, but want a natural and clean appearance that the DG lends itself to.

Precisely. Well the curtains have a pocket, but same concept.

If you like the large size and aggressive growth of regular crape myrtles, great. If not, I just got done removing mine and replaced it with a dwarf variety of crape myrtle. Shouldn't get anymore than 3-4 ft tall.

In that case yes , use a centre support and join your dowel over the support

Thank you. My wife thought it could be done without a center support and thinks it will look bad, but will be better than it falling or buckling.

I'm not sure what variety the one is that is already planted, but we are going to transplant it on the other side of the garage to kinda hide the A/C. We plan to keep it trimmed down to about 4ft. The crape myrtle on the right side of the drawing will match whatever we decide to go with at the oak leaf holly location. Also going to put a couple knock out roses in place of a few boxwoods.
