5100's set to 1.75" Wheelers 3 leaf progressive AAL & 5100's for the rear Konig Countersteer Offroads K&N Drop in WeatherTech's Bed Mat Blacked out Badges Rear leaf TSB
I received my remedy letter in the mail yesterday. My question is what will they say to me since I have installed the 3 leaf AAL from Wheelers? I'm guessing they won't do the work.

I don't know why toyota dealers are telling some people that it is an inspection. If you received a recall letter it is for a replacement pair of springs.

I went in yesterday to have mine inspected. I have a 2" AAL installed and they still said I need new leafs. They just said if I want the AAL reinstalled with the new leaf pack they would just charge me for the labor to do so.

Maybe it's different depending on the area, but the letter I got (and the recall PDF that I get if I enter my VIN on the website) says the exact wording that is quoted above:

    "if necessary"

It's BS, but that's what it says.

That sucks if you happen to have the 3 leaf pack above with 4 clips - No good but they won't replace according to the post above. Mine off a 2015 are the 4 leaf 6 clip type so I'm good but will try to be reimbursed for what I paid using my paypal transaction receipt with purchase item listed in the note field. Also will provide the matching bank transaction as well.

Wait, it's so obvious now... just remove a clip and then get inspected.

IS the new springs better, I got new springs with frame and they are complete crap, they are so soft they feel like rubber. Maybe I got turd gen leaf springs (for trucks with no torque whatsoever) but my 4.0 wraps them around axles.
Not sure if to wait for new leafs or just buy something else ?

If they don't want to reimburse what I spent on good leafs then I can put the trash ones back on and they can be out more money to put the recall set on.

called my dealer today and simply gave them my vin # over the phone and they said they would order the leaf springs and would call me when they came in to get them installed. Said it might take 3-4 weeks.

They didn't even ask about the letter. Darn, I should have just called months ago. Oh well.

Called my local dealer (who I also purchased through) to schedule my 90k service and mentioned I wanted the recall addressed at the same time. The service advisor said "we have to inspect those, but yeah, we'll look at them when you bring it in." I wasn't going to argue with someone over the phone, but I will certainly be assertive at the appointment. My concern with all this is in the safety recall letter, the following is highlighted:

The "if necessary" part seems off to me. If it's a recall, and the parts are defective due to manufacturing, how can they use the term "if necessary"? If I'm denied, after entering my VIN to see that my truck shows the recall is needed, I have proof of inspection with no corrective action taken and later have a parts failure, you can be sure I'll...

Well, I guess I'll cross that bridge when and if I get there, but sheesh, what a cluster this is.

Desert Toyota in town said it would be $150 in labor to switch over my AAL to the new springs. Said no thanks and went on my way.

Just a FYI for everyone wonder about reimbursement. The dealers cost is $916ish for tsb spring and $ 28ish for shackles. I was being nosey on the dealers screen.

I'll be happy if they just give me what I spent on the after market leaf pack. I would have to be a certified technician to get reimbursed for labor.

It says on the letter to send a copy of your receipt to Toyota, I would give it a try? Worst they can say is no.

For what it's worth, the inspection seemed more of a formality. The Toyota Service man said they have only done a few of them and they have not had to turn anyone down. I did ask what the disqualifying factor was, and of course the leaf springs have to be original.
