Truck is running really bad... Misfire...

    I would like to say that I am new here, and its nice to meet everyone! But I do have a question as well...

    I have a 99 toyota tacoma 4x4 V6 with about 170,000 miles on it. The other day I went on about a 200 mile drive and the truck ran fine for the drive. We then stopped to eat lunch, (turned truck off for about 30 mins) got back in, started it, and ran, but was shaking really badly. Engine light came on shortly after that so I took it to get checked... said it had a Cyl. 4 misfire. The guy said check the plugs, they may be bad. I had just changed my plugs probably 6 months ago, with the stock toyota plugs. but checked them and they were fine. Then we tried changing the plugs wires, and the Cyl. 4 Coil on plug thingy for Cyl. 1 and 4. Still nothing is better...

    Now here is the thing, when cold the truck starts fine, runs and will run normally till it gets warmed up, I have stopped and re-started it. Sometimes it gets over it, and runs normally. Thought it might be bad gas, but run sea foam through the tank and filled it up with different gas and ran that through. Still not better...

    Anyone have any better options?

    Brake booster? Unless i'm not sure what that is, its not really a problem happening with the brakes, but if it has another purpose, could be...? And with the injectors, thought about that as well, but the purpose of the sea foam was to clean the injectors...

    He's talking about the vacuum line that feeds the brake booster. You feed the Sea Foam through it so it can clean stuff out.

Exterior- Trail Gear Solid Axle Swap, ARB compressor, high pinion 4.88 with ARB locker, 4.88 TRD Locker in the rear. Interior- 2 10inch JL W1 subs, Alpine MRX-V70 amp, Alpine type R SPR 17C 6x6 speaker in the back, Focal 165 VR with crossover tweeter up front, and Weather Tech floor mats.
    You pore the Seafoam in your PCV valve is what hes saying.

    So I tried the sea foam through the Vacuum tube on the brake booster, lots of smoke... drove well for a while. Then turned the truck off, and then back on again and it started to run rough again. It wasnt as bad as before, but still the engine bucked a little. Should I flush more of that stuff through there and just really clean it all out, or maybe go get BG run through it from a shop?

    I would suggest getting the compression tested on that cylinder. If you have changed the plugs, wires, swapped coils, etc., then there isn't much left.

    port and polish intake manifold, supercharger, pulley for charger, lifted, tires, deckplate, (doing full engine build)
    im saying ring! if you are hard on acceleration and non of that stuff worked. im saying rings or injector. even possibly messed up valve......................... use injector cleaner

    Well I dont have the tools for a compression test, so gotta take it to a shop for that. Would there be any benefit to run the sea foam through the vacuum hose again and really get it clean? And its had 2 injector cleaners run through it so far.

    Another dose of seafoam won't hurt anything. You can usually rent the tester from a parts store.

    So trucks doing something else now...

    when I start it to warm it up, it will idle around 2000 rpms, or higher. Then once it gets warmed up and i go drive it, the idle will go up and down repeatedly for a while. This just started happening after the sea foam treatment.

    That could be the IAC valve. It will do that if it gets stuck. It is located under the front of the throttle body. Use a toothbrush and carb cleaner to clean it. There are two or three bolts that hold it on.

    Dont forget to change your oil after you use seafoam as well.

    Should the computer be reset as well once all the cleaning is done. And is that just a simple battery disconnect or something more technical?

    I had a 99 6 cylindar. I know there is a TSB for bad head gaskets. I had the same problem. it would run rough for bit then good. I took it to a local dealership and they replaced the head gasket and I also got a new engine out of the deal. It's worth checking out. Good luck
