Well It's almost time, I'm finally finishing up payments on my late 2014 Tacoma and have set aside some money to get tires and a lift straight out. (hate worrying about payments)

I'm planning on getting a 3" kit, 33's, and keeping my stock TRD sport 17" wheels, keeping stock gearing, I was hoping to get some opinions / information.

    Some info on my end:
I have about 4-5k set aside for this, It's a daily driver and I don't do much crazy offroading.

What should I be expecting cost wise for a total? I assumed $200 ea. for tires x 5 and unsure on the lift.
What's the largest spec for 33s I could go with, without worrying about rubbing if any?
Is there anything I should keep in mind / be aware of before I get this done? Any information, opinions, build pages other people have done would be really helpful.

Don't go to the dealerships for lifts, that's my opinion. They'll toss in a 3" spacer and it'll ride terrible.

X5 on not going to a dealer.

Buy an OME & call it good.

Buy OME or Bilstien adjustable shocks, or go all out for king/fox/icon. Dakars or AllPro leaf pack for the back, shocks to match the front.

You'll have to cut for 33s to clear w/o rubbing.

Another thing no one is addressing is that you won't be able to keep your stock wheels unless you throw some spacers on there.

I see you're from Texas, where exactly? You tell a dealership "I want to lift my truck" you're gonna see the $$$ in their eyes and you're gonna get dicked. Just my $.02 from working at one.

Do some research and find a quality lift that suits your needs, feel free to DM me for personal advise. If you're in the Austin area, i'll throw on the lift for half what a dealership would charge in half the time.

Would it be cheaper / better to get spacers or just get new wheels?

Personally, I'd get new wheels. If you get new wheels and tires from Discounttiredirect.com, they'll mount, balance, and ship them for free. You could get a good deal around memorial day since I'm sure they'll be running a sale

I wish I had bros who knew a thing or two, trying to figure out the route to go for the best but this is my first truck / lift so everything is new knowledge.

Seems like you have a lot of research to do.

33s will rub without cutting into your cab mounts and welding. And youre gonna need new wheels or spacers to get the proper back spacing. There are many lifts going from $300 to $5,000+ it all depends on what you are looking to do, but everyone else is right, dont go to the dealer. You will regret it.

Correct. With 255s, you can keep stock wheels and reduce your chance of rubbing.

Now that you will own you truck, don't destroy it by putting spacers in. Be patient and do it right. A good suspension lift Bilstien 5100's and an AAL will complete your needs for less then $1000. Blocks put in at a dealership (because they rape people) will cost you that much. Friends don't let friend block their trucks.

Just so I have a better understanding, 285s are I'm assuming the most common 33s? I'd rather not go the tall / skinny route. In which case I'd need to get spacers?

Yeah, I'm definitely not going the cheap route on anything for my truck ever. I'd rather save up the money and do it right which is why I'm trying to get as much information as I can.

Really anything, I mean I have about $4-5k set aside at the moment but I'm willing to spend what I need to, to get it right the first time.

Like @EatSleepTacos said, what is your budget? Do you want the lift for looks, mall crawler, weekend warrior offroading, serious rocking, all around terrain? Give us a general idea of what you want to accomplish and we can give you a general direction and better options. Also remember that 33" tires can be very heavy.
