I should have known you'd have one, Jareb, haha!

I think mine might be in a box in the cellar from when we moved, so I'll check there tonight. If I can't find it I'll hit you up and see when we can give her a tune.

Half way thru to the trains do NOT follow the ribbons that veer off to the right. That is a proposed snowmobile trail and NOT the trail to the trains. Stay straight on the muddy trail. We experienced this back on May 8th this year.. Have fun!

What day are you going to see the Trains?
I'm headed up to Portage for a fishing trip this weekend and thought I might make the drive in to see the trains.

MtnClimber did you just use the Maine Gazetteer to get yourself in to see the trains?

Jareb uses an InReach paired to a tablet, he'll be able to explain it better than I can.

I've always used a Maine Gazetteer and an old Garmin GPS. I use the Garmin to determine my coordinates, which I use to find myself on the map. Using that with my known direction of travel, I've been able to accurately navigate in the NMW for years.

I generally use a Maine Gazetteer and a simple compass. Then enjoy the drive! It isn't terribly complicated.

Thanks for the tips! I'll be using a compass, gazetter, an older Tom Tom gps and I'm currently loading routs onto Gaia.

The plan is head up Friday after work, camp somewhere off the telos road, enter Saturday am, straight to the trains, then do some exploring (ice caves?). Camp another night in the woods ( any recommendations?) explore more Sunday am and head back for pavement.

Of the planned 3 vehicles none of us will have a winch. 2 high lifts, spare fuel, 2 arb snatch straps, a few tow straps, various shackles, 4 tjm traction boards, chain saw, axes, hand saws, 95% of the tools to dismantle a Toyota, first aid kit and random other crap.

For sure. I take the same approach. Just make sure you keep track of your mileage because without gps to confirm your location it can be easy to grab the wrong turn onto a cutoff road that isn't on the map.

Anyone know the law about marker lights I just failed my inspection because they were "out" when I don't even have and they are just reflectors

If you modified the vehicle and marker lights were on the vehicle and they are not on now you fail. If you replace headlamps with hid systems you fail. You change color you fail. You do that stupid fog lamp on anytime mod. You fail. Your light bar in front could fail if it blocks part of the plate.

Heading out in a few minutes for a 2 night exploring/fly-fishing adventure around Moosehead Lake. Heading north up around the lake on the east side and returning on the west side. Nothing too serious, but my first trip of many for the year. I may fish some of the usual places, but I enjoy finding those "off the beaten path" spots....the exploring is most of the fun. If anyone's up there and you see me...please say hi.

Nice. Not too surprising, I guess. We found some mud this weekend when we went out after Turkeys. Found a Jake and a nice Tom too.

Did you get any good photos while you were up there?

And if you tell the tech doing the inspection that he's ugly and his momma dresses him funny then you'll probably fail too. :notsure:

    Hello fellow Mainers!

I originally developed a low mount license plate bracket for myself and have just started offering them for sale. The bracket is a simple, sturdy solution that allows the plate to move down below the lower bumper opening. It is made out of aluminum with stainless steel hardware so it will never rust. Follow the link below for the sale thread.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/low-mount-license-plate-bracket-35-shipped.429680/

Three different models for 2nd generation Tacomas.

And a deal for the locals....If you can pick up a bracket from me in person I will sell it for $25 since I do not have to pay shipping costs. And if I can ship to a Maine address then I will pass along the savings in shipping by offering them for $30 shipped in the great State of Maine.
