    @Teeko

    Surely you can do better than that to explain to us right? Kindly be verbose.

    Exactly what didn't you like about the 3.5 v6? The noise, power, torque, pickup, mileage, size...? What were your complaints? How much did you buy and how much did you sell it for? How long have you had your tacoma before you sold it? What were your chief complaints about the truck, and your final impetus for selling it? Obviously money isn't a factor here in your case, and surely you lost quite a bit of $ change in giving it up. 99% of us here won't think of that and would live with it even if we had problems with our truck. Very eager to hear your story.

    EPA gas mileage is just a number they relied on Toyota to tell them based on specific test methods. EPA only spot checks these numbers.

    Part of that is: the highway number is based on 55mph.
    The combined is based on 55% highway driving 45% city driving.
    Sitting in a traffic jam on a highway is equal to city driving.

    These trucks seem to be super-sensitive to speed vs. economy. I tried an experiment just to see what the difference in fuel economy would be. With a full tank, I went 50 miles on the interstate with cruise set at 75 mph. I stopped and filled up and did the math ... 18.9 mpg. I then drove the same 50 miles back with cruise set at 60 and filled up again ... got something like 25.5 mpg. I think they are geared for max economy at a steady speed of 55 mph. If you are going 90 to 100 mph a lot, I would imagine that's whats wrong.

    What did I do today? I listened to my fellow TW'ers.

    I got an email from my salesman reminding me that I am almost at the 5 month mark and should bring the Tacoma in for complimentary service at 5months or 5K miles. I took that opportunity to go to service and ask for them to check the ATF and Zerks. He told me that with only 2700 miles, it was too early. I told him that there has been a lot of chatter on the internet (TW) regarding '16 Tacomas being low on ATF. I am sure service guys hate to hear that as much as physicians hate to hear about Dr. Google's recommendations. He said he never hear of that. I fibbed a little and said that my AT paused and lunged going into gear sometimes. He said that's good enough to have a look. I told him I would leave it overnight because I knew that it had to be at the right temperature. I jokingly said, "some people have said the dealer checked everything at a 30 min appointment" and how that was pretty bad of the dealer. He laughed and agreed. I hoped he got the message that I expected him to actually do it. He called the next morning and said, "Good call! It was 2 QUARTS LOW!" I told him TW wasn't wrong. He then admitted that the parts and accessories guy informed him of the internet chatter this morning.

    If any of you are considering getting yours checked. Do it. If you dealer won't, they suck. Kalispell Toyota in Kalispell MT has given me nothing but excellent service over 3 vehicles.

    @glider_guider :

    Wow! Thank-you for telling me this, and feel a bit relieved now. Thank-you for taking your time, patience, and money spend for all the rest of here for your experiment. Yes, I might have gone upto 80s, 90's and 100's more than just a few,.. I'm always late 5 or more minutes and always rushing every where.. I got to try your experiment or be patient and have a ride at about 60 to see my real MPG. You're the best Glider.

    @Cuffs : Thanks Cuffs.. didn't know those info.

    You're welcome. I'll also say that my mileage seemed to improve after 1,000 miles or so. I was getting around 20 on average, and after I tripped 1,000 miles I started noticing it was closer to 21 or 22.

    Good luck. I hope you see some improvements.

    I dropped by truck off at the Albany dealership here in Oregon for the "hood" issue. I asked them to check the ATF level and the zerks. I explained about how the issues have been pretty common. The head Toyota service guy pretty much told me I was wrong and that there hasn't been any complaints that he had seen and that he would know, because he was on the "ground level." He then told me that all of that stuff was checked at the factory and then at the dealership. I brought up TW and how common these things have been from the factory and he laughed and said that "the internet says that Elvis is still alive too." I handed him my key and told him to fuck himself after that comment. My truck is there all day today so I guess we will see what happens.

    Sounds like you're working with a real douche. Not surprised though. I wouldn't have told him to fuck himself until I got my truck back. Keep us posted. (Call some dealers in Salem if you're not happy with your local service crew.)

    I probably shouldn't have, but it made me feel a lot better. If I'm not happy with the outcome Salem it is!
