Well after having to sell my '09 cc/sb TRD-OR this past Aug and getting a Honda I'm looking at trucks again in my spare time, which isn't much when working 60+hrs/wk, hoping and waiting when the economy comes back in a year or 2 I can maybe get back into a truck. I'm totoally over fullsize trucks... expensive, hard to park, not as good offroad etc. I'm really a huge fan of the mid size 4x4 truck catagory. Well I went to the Frontier's website and learned a lot about it I didn't know.

Few things I really found impressive:
1- Fully boxed frame!! (Pay attention toyota!) I was a bit unimpressed with my $33k Taco's C-channel flexy frame.

2- A lot more HP and torque from the same size V6. It's like getting a TRD Super charger for free, and not having to run high octane fuel. How can you beat it? 261HP vs 236HP. 281#/Ft vs 266#/Ft of Torque.

3- Available Locking rear Diff (offroad package just like the TRD).

4- MPG's are just about dead even. No real point even comparing them. But if you do compare a 4x4 V6 6spd manual, the Nissan edges the taco out.

5- Priced better than the Taco. Few extra Grand to save. $27.8k Frontier. $30k Taco.

6- Did not like the seating postion in my taco, that's my fault. I thought I'd get used to it. All the reviews say the seating position is either low, or "odd" or feels cramped. I'd use all 3 to describe it. It's low, cramped and odd positioned.

Wondering what others think, or maybe have driven and owned late model Frontiers.

Well, I'm not going to trash the Frontier. A friend at work has an 05 Nismo. He's got about 70,000 trouble free miles on it and he loves it. V-6, auto, 4WD.
I already had 2 Tacoma's when I got my 08, so I wasn't about to change brands. I've got no problems with my truck. If you weren't happy with the Tacoma, get the Frontier. It's your money, you worked for it, spend it on what makes you happy. Good luck.

Asking a bunch of Tacoma owners whether you should get the Nissan won't yeild you much in the way of objective opinions. Having said that, though, I drove both and thought they were quite evenly matched...at least in 4 cyl 2wd form. In the end I selected the Taco based strickly on subjective things...i.e., the ride was better and more quiet and the interior looked and felt better.

Buy what YOU want. The opinions of a bunch of dingle-berries like us mean nothing. ;)

what better place to have this discussion. I don't consider myself a brand loyal idiot. Toyota Products have gone down hill in a lot of ways since the early 90's. My 4runner had a fully boxed frame, never flexed and overall was a HD built truck. My '09 Taco felt flimsy and flexed a lot when articulating on the ramp.

By the way, have they come up with a fix for the Taco's Auto shift problem?

What about the goofy feeling brake pedal?

And the issues with the manual trans?

Vibe on take off? (I recall watching the video on this site)

Trust me, love tacos but I don't just take the blue pill w/out questions. It's always good to question and make educated decisions based on something that's real, not "my daddy had one".

I test drove one and as I was driving it on the lot, it threw a rod with only 40 miles on it. No thankyou. Buddy of mine had one in CO and after a year nissian decided it was a lemon and he decided to take his money back and bought a Titan. He loves that truck.

Scott, why are you so sensative about even question your toyota product? Does Toyota pay your mortgage? FYI, I"m not talking shit. Grow up a bit and be able to have a discussion w/out getting your feelings hurt. I'll buy the best product at the price I can afford, regardless of brand. I'm loyal to my money and what I get in return. Not name brands.

Dude, look at the nightmare threads on Tacos... That shit goes both ways. All vehicles have issues and lemons. My moms Corolla is POS with only 35k on it. Guess I shouldn't even look at the Tacoma. Isn't it Toyota that's recalling millions of cars b/c of a floor mat? Or when Toyota had to recall How many Tundras and REPLACE THE ENGINES. All cars/trucks are shit. you need to look at them carefully and actually think about it/debate it. B/c no brand name pays my mortgage or puts food on my table. (I'll let you know if I get a sponsorship).
