I have a 2014 PreRunner AC 2WD with auto trans and 2.7 engine, and I'm preparing to lube the propeller shaft. The maintenance schedule mentions lubing the slip yoke but it doesn't look like that can be easily done in this case. There are 3 u-joint/spider zerks (front, middle, rear) that will be no problem, but the slip yoke appears to be inside a boot (see pic). I've searched the forums and read many posts but still not clear on the slip yoke. Is it supposed to be lubed or leave it alone since it looks to be "factory sealed"? Thanks for any help!

I assume the slip yoke is inside this boot:

Looking at an access cab drive shaft. See below. Where did they hide the boot?

That's a good diagram, don't know why the boot isn't there. Here's what my propeller shaft looks like. The picture I took (above) is the part in the middle with the middle spider and boot.

2WD trucks don't have greasable ujoints or a slip yoke. And a 4WD shaft will not mate to a 2WD transmission (transfer case flange compared to transmission output shaft)

Here is a picture of my drive shaft for reference. No slip yoke.

I have read on the forum that some have no zerks, but I have them on all three of my u-joints. I may not have a slip yoke, I don't know. If it's not a slip yoke what do you think is inside the boot? Thanks

Here's another pic if it helps.

I would venture to say it is a slip yoke inside the boot.

That appears to be a 4WD shaft. Can you take a picture from the rear of the shaft looking towards the carrier bearing?

I would think it's a slip yoke too. Doesn't look like it is made to be lubed regularly if at all. I took this pic yesterday, does it help? I can take another when I get home from the rear looking forward.

    I have a 4x4 DC and don't have greaseable u-joints.

yes you do.... just look harder.

And the i4 prerunners do have a slip yoke as the auto trans used has a fixed flange at the transfer case making the slip yoke necessary.

The slip yoke female splines side is on the U joint side of that section of driveshaft, the male side attached to the driveshaft side. You can cut one of the metal clips, grease, then replace with a zip tie.

Thought only the TRD's had the greaseable drive line. My 03 TRD had them but my 15 has no zerks.

Everything after 07 has zerks on the driveshaft.

your 2015 4x4 100% does... every u joint, rear joints have zerks on the cap end's of each u joint, and the front driveshaft has zerks in the center of each u joint.

Problem solved. Never personally seen a 4 banger pre-runner, did not know they have a different tranny with different output. Good to know!

Your description sounds exactly like what I have. How often would you lube the slip yoke? Too bad they didn't put a zerk on it.

Silly me but I thought Trucks didn't have propellers. Only Boats had propellers.

I personally would not worry about it. I would grease the zirks on the ujoints every oil change tho

Roger that. Doesn't look like they meant it to be lubed the way it's all wrapped up.

I planned on pulling mine apart around 50 or 60 k miles to lube it, but it will probably be sooner as i am going to be replacing the CB with a better one and figured while its out may as well split it and lube it up.

Sounds good, I think I am clear now on the slip yoke and ready to do some lubricating! Thanks to everyone for your input!
