I'm with you there, I was originally going to buy a used 2015 tacoma but couldn't justify paying 33k for a used one compared to a new 2016 tacoma that was 32,500 msrp. Those seem to be the going prices in my area.

I really wanted to like the 2016, it was my first brand new vehicle and I also thought I was going to have it for a very long time.
I still have my first car I bought at 16 yrs old, an 03 Toyota Celica with 212k miles on the clock.

I just got mine, slightly used from tacomedic and I honestly love it. granted he had done a bunch of work to it so that has probably made my opinion a little bias as I never drove one stock but in all honesty I can say I love this truck... the power isn't quite there but honestly I didn't buy the truck to race around a track... the gas mileage is great compared to my previous truck (raptor) and feels much more solid and rigid than the raptor ever did IMO. overall very happy with it and plan to keep this one for the long haul!

Yeah yours is set up nicely, mine was similar but without the 4x4 and king suspension, same wheel and tire set up tho.
I didn't buy it to race either but I like to feel a little more torque down low, just makes my driving experience enjoyable.

Your raptor wasn't solid? I'm considering the 2017 Raptor.

Never had a problem with shifting it into 4LO, it engages as soon as I switch it over and put it in drive.

I think it's because I have tires that have actual traction now :D compared to the stock G/Y garbage. I still prefer to be able to shift it myself. Call me old school.

Why even bother converting an FJ into that? People bitch about the DCSB not having enough space to be usable, that wouldn't even carry your spare tire flat in the bed. It looks different I guess, but usable it is not.
Get a small trailer to pull behind it and load it up when you need to. Best of both worlds.

the raptor just felt big and that was about it... the new one I feel is going to be the same with the aluminum body... although the power is definitely there I feel that the Tacoma just feels more solid and well built IMO... don't get me wrong I loved my raptor as well but 9mpg and all that power really wasn't used by myself personally... fastest I ever went off road was maybe 45-50 and that was dirt trails no jumping or anything crazy because even though they say they're Baja ready, doesn't mean you can haul ass at 50+ mph through whoops... I have friends with full linked rear ends and they can handle that but once you go there its no longer really a daily/weekend warrior kind of truck...

A wise old man once told me not to buy the first year of anything new. Wait until they work the bugs out and then get one. I should've, but I'm not old and wise yet! :D Plus, I ordered the truck without even driving one, because I just figured it's be better than the 2nd gens and it looked better IMO, so nobody is to blame but me.

Added Redline hood struts today. Simple thirty minute job. I added Rustoleum rubberized paint to the drill points and also to the bottoms of each rivet.

Uh oh. Congrats. Mine are 8 and 4. I'm done and my wife doesn't mind my mod ideas. After we buy her wedding band. Lost it last year at the beach, after I said we should go.. Oh well, $1500 for her means more for my truck! !!!

Because I haul an engine or a transmission out of town 5-10 times per month and don't want to drag around my cargo trailer just for that, and my big truck gets 9mpg, plus I have a half cab for my FJ40, which is great for hunting etc. Oh and I think it looks unique!

Oh yeah, I think something said "Low Charge" or something too, I don't know, I was too busy driving and paying attention to the road. Thanks!

Installed my header rail today, it was extremely simple. A Torx T30 and you're good to go.

Noticed these bolt holes though, what are these for? Smack in the middle of the front bed rail.

Must have left some water standing in the left side when I washed it, looks all gross and rusty now. Gonna guess they're for a tonneau, but can I just plug 'em with an appropriately sized bolt?
