Might trade 16 Tacoma for 16 Frontier

I think we're skipping a very important detail... why the HELL is a sunroof a must have?! It's the weak link in most makes and models, and I personally don't know anyone who uses it on a daily or even weekly basis. To me this is like saying "must have giant hole in the roof that will eventually leak, ruining my headliner and probably much more".

Lol I had one on my F-150 and I liked it and all, but it was by NOOOO means a "must have"... more like a "kinda cool, kinda a pain in the ass to get perfectly clean when washing the truck".

 

It came with the tech package, which is what I really wanted. I use it when I'm not running A/C, it's not raining, or the sun ain't directly overhead.

So, barely ever.

 

Most every vehicle I've had in the past 25 years has had either T-tops, sunroof or been a convertible. The only ones that leaked were the T-tops and they only leaked a drip or two when in a very heavy rain. A vehicle with a solid roof is too dark. I enjoy the sunroof even when it is closed because they still let light in. I've had aftermarket pop-up sunroofs as well as factory sliding sunroofs in 8 vehicles and NONE have ever leaked.

 

It was a 6cyl Pro 4X. I previously towed the boat with a GMC Sierra and it was fine. With the Frontier, it was noticeably jerkier when you accelerated. I would not have wanted to go any great distance on the highway with it.

 

That makes sense. Well if a sunroof is a must have... then I'd agree with others who've said that the Nissan will tank in value over time compared to the Taco. Have you looked at the 2013 Tacomas? The reason I got a 2016 TRDOR 4x4 was because a 2013 TRDOR 4x4 with 30k miles was still over $30k. I'd get a long bed Tacoma before any other mid size truck simply for resale value.

 

I just sold my 2011 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. Good truck, but the 16 mpg all the time sucked. I liked the cruise control set up better and it had basically has two glove boxes in addition to the center console. A very dated look but took care of business. Like my new Taco better tho.

 

Why Come on a Taco forum and say you bought a Nissan? just asking to get flamed.

I'd choose a 2016 Frontier. Out of the 2016 Colorado/Canyon, Tacoma, and Frontier, the Frontier is the most proven with 11 years behind it already. The others still need to prove themselves in the long run.

I don't mind the lack of tech, so-so mpg's or dated interior because I would choose a truck for what it's designed to do. Truck things.

The Frontier is 90% the Nissan Navara which was a competitor to the Hilux. It's a well built truck.

 

In the past I have test drove the new Tacoma sport and OR 4x4. Was not that impressed. During the test drive some of the issues mention on this forum were present.

Last week Test drove a Frontier SV 4x4. Yes, it has a slightly larger turning radius than a Tacoma. Yet compared to my Ram , it was definitely an improvement. I actually liked the ride and performance of the Nissan V6. For an older design, it is not bad.

If I was to purchase today, I would get the Nissan over the Tacoma. I did really like my 06 Tacoma sport. Just don't like the new engine and transmission in the 2016 Tacoma.

 

It looks like I might be able to get a new Tundra DC SR5 4x4 for the value of my Tacoma. I have to decide if I can live with an aftermarket sunroof if I do that.

Tundra is nice but a decade old. Wondering when Toyota will come out with a new Tundra.

 

They did in 2014.

 

Not really. They re-skinned it and slapped a new interior in it. That's it. Motor is still the same.

 

Don't they are no where near as nice or reliable
