I know after all these crashes that have happened over the years I have heard that Boeing-Airbus may have the capability to monitor flight systems via Sat and other means....Just like the Malaysia flight that went missing Boeing 777-200ER was able to see operational system conditions I thought i heard of....

    I guess something like this..........
Airborne analysis and message routers that enable trend monitoring in this form are prevalent on most modern commercial air transport aircraft in the form of the Aircraft Communications and Reporting System (ACARS) and the Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS). Streaming data through these systems is difficult because each has limited bandwidth and capability and support text messaging of only small canned sets of data about the conditions of the various aircraft systems. Currently, the technology used by airlines and operators to capture parameters of flight data and share it with their ground-based operational and maintenance teams is extremely limited and equivalent to the speed of dial up Internet connections. This data sharing process occurs so that ground-based operational teams can measure the airborne performance of various aircraft components and systems during different phases of flight, such as at cruise altitude or during adverse weather conditions.

“Right now, operators are dealing with connection speeds that are ancient, with VHF connections providing on average 10 to 15 Kbps,” says Jack Jacobs, vice president of marketing and product management of safety and information systems at Honeywell Aerospace. “But it is getting better; the day is coming where we will see connectivity on the aircraft that is equivalent to what we’re used to in our homes.”

That type of connectivity can have different benefits for different parts of the aircraft, according to Jacobs. For example, the aircraft braking system on most passenger jets today is monitored by the brake control system. Maintenance teams determine whether a repair is necessary through a physical measurement of a wear device on the brakes. Introducing connectivity that provides real-time monitoring of the brakes will greatly enhance that process.

“Affordable, wireless real time connectivity can allow us to monitor flight to flight and even out wear on brakes to extend life and reduce maintenance costs as well as forward stage parts proactively. We also have the ability to integrate with other information such as flight plans, weather and landing conditions to perform prognostics much more efficiently,”

I know for the 787 we have as IPNPULZ said a very limited amount of data connection while in flight. The majority of the maintenance data is transferred wirelessly but only at a terminal via the TWLU (terminal wireless LAN unit) which to compare it to his brakes example above we have a brake wear indication that can be monitored from the cockpit and is transmitted as part of that maintenance data. There is even an option for the Boeing "gold care package" that can be used to automatically setup scheduled maintenance based on that information.

Edit: After reading IPNPULZ's last quote there I think they are pretty much speaking directly to what I mentioned.

Yeah, I am just curious as to what would and can be monitored while inflight outside of Maintenance data Engines,Nav data, electrical data and fly by wire type stuff as well......

Part of the NextGen program is ADS-B which will improve aircraft communication with regard to ATC services.

This is true. ARINC is the provider for system info (kind of the ISP) for the systems that broadcast. Data channels are broadcast other than just VHF however (I think I read it was limited to that).

Some carriers are expirementing with future air navigation system (FANS). This is or is planned to be the next generation of navigation. It may or may not provide better band width as part of the upgrade.

I really thought they were closer to this type of technology and or had it in place or further along than currently.......

There is some conversation both from regulatory & industry about broadcasting DFDR & CVR live. It would be massive amounts of data and not something I see happening in the near term.

Not mandatory yet but, thought ADS-B was already in wide use.

2019 is going to be a Avionic dude's pipe dream when it comes to CASH$$$. Everyone is putting off their ADS-B upgrades till the last minute as its just really expensive. Also takes a couple days labour for a proper install.

10 of these F-15s could destroy 160 enemy aircraft.

Eating a sandwich inside and I heard a faint, low sound.

Bolted out of my seat and into the back yard, multi round motors........barely spotted a B-17 that looked like it may be orbiting toward McClellan AFB (former).

My wife always shakes her head. :anonymous:
