Hellwig 1906 5 leaf spring pack upgrade Updated with pics

Looking to see if anyone is/has run the Hellwig 1906 spring pack upgrade on your 2nd gen. Please do not do a search for hellwig 1906 and post those links, i've looked and none of them have any really good info.

I'm looking for anyone/anything else that anyone may be able to provide specifically any height gained, ride differences over stock, general experience with the pack-loaded/unloaded, etc...

Also, this is not a thread asking for what other packs are out there/available, i'm only looking for info on the 1906 pack from Hellwig (I have a project i'm starting research on).

havent seen anyone on here with this setup, looks like it gives you a 2" unloaded from comments here and there. I have the regular half-single spring helper. does a nice job with what i haul and eliminates axle wrap.

 

Hey thanks for chiming in! I'm surprised that no one has tried this setup. I read the 2" unloaded as well. Even though they claim it as not being designed as a lift spring, logically i'd think it'd be no different than adding a block the same thickness as the additional five leafs under the two main leafs thus providing the 2" of lift.

I think i'm going to try these out. Seems like they'll provide the lift as well as a softer ride from the progressive design.

Was also throwing the idea around of taking my stock overloads, flipping them upside down and putting them on top of the leaf pack to see if they'd act as an anti-axle wrap leaf. Just have to take some measurements and cut them off on one side just past where everything bolts to the axle.

Any thoughts on that?

that works, plenty of people on these forums stack aal leafs when they start to flatten out or want to add height. my helper springs have held into my second set of leaf packs. convenient design, tighten them down when i carry load and back them off under normal driving. If you are planning to use the overloads over the stock leaf pack keep in mind the stock clips, they get in the way, I had to remove mine to allow my helpers to clear and have full effect. For your case you might want to modify them if you plan on keeping them, dont know how long the hellwigs are in relation.

 

So i pulled the trigger and ordered the Hellwig 1906 5 leaf spring pack upgrade. I'm determined to get to the bottom of this setup as i cannot find anyone else running this setup (without camper) and post the aftermath if anyone else cares to see what happens!! Current plan is to remove the 2" ready lift blocks currently installed (Ready Lift SST kit, don't judge me i'm cheap), install the Hellwig 5 leaf upgrade pack, flip over the factory overload and cut it off just past the center pin (hopefully to act as an anti axle wrap leaf) and see what the outcome is. Not too concerned with height outcome as i'm guessing since each of the 5 leafs are 8mm thick equaling roughly just over 1.5" total, my rear height should drop about .5" and put her right a level. I have bags for towing so if the lack of rake pisses me off that bad, i'll just put 10 psi in the bags and call it good.

Hellwig 1906 tacoma upgrade pack arrived yesterday as scheduled. Initial observations: came nicely packaged, instructions included, all 10 leafs look to be of good quality, (however, of note: the powder coating could be better, but then again they are leaf springs and it doesn't help that i'm somewhat OCD), all hardware included to include: new u-bolts/nuts, center pins, brackets, etc... everything you'd need to add them in. Time permitting, will try to install this weekend and plan to take pictures. Will post again after install.

Rough Country 744 2" leveling kit. I'll be replacing my bed with a Ute flatbed and then putting a Four Wheel Campers Fleet Flatbed on it. So I'm hoping that once the camper is loaded it will roughly even out the truck.

 

Been awhile since i've been on here. Install went great. Got about 2 1/2" of lift from the upgrade pack (not meant to be a lift pack per Hellwig). Replaced shocks with 5160 bilsteins and kept the firestone ride rites. Ride is a bit stiff with empty bed but rides great when towing or with a little bit of weight. Noticeable difference with 1-200lbs vs empty on ride quality. I have the readylift front level spacer from their SST kit up front with these in the back and its right at a 2 3/4"" rake, a bit much but i've learned to like it. Almost Levels out with normal trailer load (roughly 5-600lb tongue weight. I've squatted it below level with full trailer load but thats why i kept the ride rites. When not towing, I just remove valve stem, compress bag, re-tighten stem and they stay nice and tucked out of the way. Leafs are stiff enough not worried about bottoming out.

Future possibility: may remove the shortest leaf to reduce rake.

If it doesn't level out with what you're planning to do, highly recommend the ride rites. Never had any complaints about them. Also, have daystar cups for what little offroading I do to prevent bag stretching.

 

It's been a couple of yrs, I'm interested how the 1906 are working out for you now?
