RCI Skid Plate Install Question

I received my RCI skid plate, but I'm not sure if I'm smart enough to mount it. The holes on the factory skid are 14.5" center to center, but on the RCI they are 17". Am I doing something wrong here? @mstudt

I got that skid on my 2016. The holes are 17 inches apart on the plate and bolt right up.

 

Did they bolt where the factory skid plate went? There is no way I can bolt it on mine because there are no holes.

Well, I guess I'll try again on Sunday and see what happens.

 

You have to remove the two support braces and use the bolts and holes from them to mount it.

 

Thanks for the info! Is there any negative to removing those supports?

This is what I did also with my RCI skids. There were six bolts to remove them if I recall correctly.

 

I thought the same thing about being sent the wrong one until I read the directions and saw you had to remove the braces and reuse two of the bolts. Who reads directions first anyway???

 

Agreed....I did read, but my heads pretty thick. That's why I like pictures

Got it in today. You do have to remove the 2 brackets that the original skid bolt up to, 6 bolts in all on those. You also reuse 2 front bolts that mount under the radiator support on the skid. Pretty easy job with the help of the wife. Although the aluminum is lighter than the steel, it's much stronger than the factory equipment it is replacing.

Just put one on my rig. My 2016 had 7-total bolts holding the radiator support on.

 

Do you reuse the two front bolts from the OEM skid plate?

 

No, 2 from the support bars you removed.

 

I have what is probably a dumb question. Do I remove the front skid only or do I remove the plate behind it as well? Also was wondering how tight to torque the four bolts (OEM) and the 2 bolts supplied.
