I don't buy cars often and have never spent over $14k for a car. So I'm nervous about this one.

This truck was bought in Hawaii and was anti-rust coated, was there for 3 yrs and has been in the states for two years. It has no cosmetic issues inside or out, no rust underneath, is strong, tight and quiet. It is a TRD sport. Has a leaf spring recall, part ordered not done yet. Has bed extender.

The owner wants $27.5k which is $1500 under KBB for private party sale.

Only issue I can see is that it still has the original tires.

Please tell me I'm not stupid to buy it without a dealer inspection.

A brand new 2016 has no miles, full warranty, latest technology and is seven thousand dollars more. Where does that leave you?

Good question. I guess that leaves me at a price point I can afford & with a pretty nice truck. That's how I think. But I could be wrong.

I'm an old guy and get a little wimpy writing a cashiers check. Last truck I had was a '72 F150 6 cyl that I paid $1200 for. It was 2 years old. Drove it for 15 years.

Do not buy the truck if it's from Hawaii especially if from Oahu. Traffic here is ridiculous on our vehicles, islands miles are horrible.

I might consider selling mine if I can get that much for it. Damn!

How many miles on that truck?

I do thing that's a little over priced though. But that may just be for my region if you're in Cali that could be a normal price for that truck.

For a 2011 27.5 is just too much. Its 5 years old and when it was new in 2011 was about 31-32k. You should be able to do much better. That is unless you really want that specific one. I have a 2013 that i had special ordered with options. I paid a little under 35k and then another 5k for the trd supercharger. The vehicle is in great shape, no damage, and i dont think i could get much more than 24k for it.

It has 34K miles, I'm in So Cal, and it was bought and run on Kawai. Not a lot of room to run on Kawaii.

I will go down to the local dealer and check out their stock. Dang.

AlohaMade808 is right. 34k island miles are probably just as bad as 70k normal highway miles.

Kauai* isn't very big and only really has one main road. But still a lot of stop and go. The roads aren't very well maintained either.

About that, I just traded in a SUV with 100k miles all Oahu miles that's like 200k+ miles easy.

I bought my 14 TRD OR 4x4 DC new for $30,800 plus tax and fees and the 2015 that replaced it was only $5100 difference INCLUDING taxes and fees. I drove the 14 for almost 40k miles.

That is 12.5 cents per mile. It was stupid cheap.

I wanted a used truck too but for $3k more than they're asking for a 3 yr old truck I bought new. Everything used I looked at was priced $2-4K off new if it was under 50k miles and even 100k mile trucks were only like $8-10k off new.

Who in the &$|\ buys these trucks? When my 14 was a year old I was offered a check for $28k for it from a USED CAR DEALER! He was going to mark it up from there. Lunacy. Buy a new one. Low mile used ones bring stupid prices. Someone explain to me the point of paying within $2-3k of new price for a used truck? That's only 6-10% off. Losing warranty coverage, free services, low interest, everything. Baffling

That was my thought process when I walked into the stealership when the had a '14 4x2 Sport with 32k miles for $28k.

Don't get discouraged if you plan to buy used do some research and wait for the right truck.

Don't be discouraged, better you find out now that it's not a good deal than to figure it out after the purchase. If there's one thing this country has plenty of, it's used (and new) Tacomas. They are literally everywhere. Just keep checking and the right one will come along.

Plenty of choices in SoCal. Everyone is saying go new, do you even like the 3rd Gen?

I paid 25k for my '11 OR 3 1/2 years ago with 34k on the clock. No way I'd pay more for the same truck now.

Unfortunately in CA, these trucks hold their value. A 2015 DC 4x4 TRD OR MSRP is around $34-35K and can be bought for $32-$33K brand new. Same truck used with 15-30K miles still sells for $32-$33K.
