We are saying go new over the '11 because a 5 grade more gets you in a 4x4 with a warranty and two years of service. Yes a 15 is worth what they are going for but a 2011 asking almost 28k for coming from Hawaii is way over priced. I would pay 28k for a 2013 and up but not a 2011.

I paid 25k for my 2013 with 13,000 miles in may 2015. I waited awhile until I found it though

I'm not saying get the Hawaii truck, I know what the ocean can do to cars. $28K is dealer pricing for a 2011.

Thanks for all your input TacoDudes. I may get this one or take eon_blue's advice and keep looking.

DriverSound: It only took 20 replies to my post but if squint real hard and read between the lines in your post, if there were any lines, I could almost believe that you almost, without really saying it, might support paying at or a little under So Cal market for a 2011 4X4 DCSB TRD with only 35k mi on it.

I did go to the dealership earlier this evening. They had used 2013 DC TRD 4x4, 35k miles for $35k. They also had a new 2016 DCSB 4x4 sticker priced $34K. They would not come off of either price for cash.

I just can't bring myself to spend the big $ for a new one. For the 120,000 to 150,000 miles I'll put on a truck before I hang it up the real value is to buy a used, low miles truck. Even if the price and the market here in So Cal is a little over heated relative to past prices or other time zones. At $27,500 the price is about $5k above what I've been telling myself I wanted to pay. But try to find a 2011 TRD 4x4 DCSB with 35K miles on it.

I do appreciate all your replies.

Id say do a little bit of driving. Anything withing a 500 mile range is worth it even if its only $1,000 off. Dont settle for whats near you. Make a weekend of it and a little road trip.

Just be patient and you will find what you are looking for. I was able to deal on a 2015 4x4 sport with 20k miles for 29k plus TT&L. Find the truck you want and start emailing multiple dealers and pinning pricing against each other. Someone will eventually budge. Be patience and don't be an asshole when dealing with these guys. Be polite and stern on the price you are willing to pay. Someone will deal

Get what you can afford and comfortable with. Don't settle. Also look in Vegas and San Diego. About a year ago, you can get a good deal on a used 4x4. Now the 3rd gens came out and 2nd gen prices spiked up. Last year, I traded my 2011 DCSB sport 4x4 with 32k miles leveled with 5100's, xd wheels, duratracs, and a shell - 1 owner at a dealership and got $26.5k for it. They priced it at $28,995. No accidents and very clean. Sold for $28k. Where can you find that deal anywhere now?

Update - I drove down to Tustin - about a three hour drive in traffic - to see an '07 DCSB 4x4, had 152k mi, King shocks, rotors warped, needed replacing(they were on warranty), driver's seat was very slightly loose...it seemed like it was well cared for. Quiet drive on the Fwy with 17" Goodyears. I did notice a very faint clunk when coming to a stop which seemed like trans down shifting into 1st (but I guess could have been several things). The gear shift when starting from a stop and when stopping I think was very slightly noticeable. Wanted $17500 but would take less.

So, here's the thing. I drive a Honda CRV, put 130k mi on it since '07 and drives like a dream, effortless and comfy. I guess I am now comparing that to the truck ride. Guess what. Duh! it ain't the same. But I am a flyfisherman and occasionally need the 4x4 assurance I can get through rough or muddy situations. Plus I want to pull a small trailer and like having the extra room of the bed with a shell on it. So, I am just saying that I'm understanding that I like the cushy, small car, ride of the CRV but have the want and need of the truck. Is there a compromise somewhere? I doubt it.

Look I'm a pencil-necked geek, old guy. So cut me some slack. I am now looking at a stock '06 4x4 DCSB with 16" stock rims. 158k mi. Asking $12k. Its a pretty red and does not have the air scoop on the hood which felt like it was obstructing my view on the last one I drove. It too is a three hour drive south. Dang, this is work.

You seem dedicated to finding the right truck for the right price. You will find one no doubt.

The clunk could be many things. Our 2009 had a clunk when taking off and going as well as when reversing. Found it to be the brakes. In my opinion, you'd be better off with a stock unmolested Tacoma. Also I had the air scoop on my last truck, it reflected the sun into the cabin at times.

DriverSound. I'm headed for San Diego tomorrow to look at a 2010 64k mi stock DCSB 4x4 automatic TRD OR, asking $25K. No air scoop. Anyone want to buy an '03 CRV allwheel dr?

Lower miles in Torrance - not TRD though
    https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/detail/663749251/overview/

    Another non-TRD Long Bed

And since you're going to San Diego - all the same dealership
    Certified 2012
    2010 with 75K mi
    2006 with 108K for $20k

Also, be sure to be running the VIN's for any records.

For perspective, I paid 29k for a brand new truck with 22 miles on the odometer (over half of that from my test drive). To me, 34k miles and 5 years old should equate to more than $1500 in savings. It all depends on whats available, the condition, and the area you're in though.

Like others said that price is pretty common in the SoCal market.

Buying brand new in 2015 is cheaper than buying a used 2015 in SoCal.
Brand new 2015 TRD OR auto 4x4 can be had at around $32-33K. Same truck with 15k+ miles still sells for $32-33K used. Sucks to buy used as it holds it value.

Got it! Got the 2010 4x4 DCSB 22Kmi. Thanks DriverSound (where did that name come from?) for the encouragement and links. I got the truck from your link to DCH Toyota dealer but not without with refusal to honor their advertised price by one floor manager. With persistence I was able to get around him and get the price I wanted.

    I'll post photos later.

Can't believe there are 35 posts to this thread.

Congrats on your purchase. I forget what color that one was. Pyrite mica? The name driversound came from a local band of old. Lots of dealership does bait and switch. I've had one dealer not wanting to honor their own emailed price quote (Diamond Honda). Glad you stood firm and got the price you wanted.

I'm not sure what color Pyrite Mica is. It is a dark golden tan color, beige interior. Thanks again.
