No 333 that I'm aware of, but you are correct on the 345. One of the first mass-produced 1 hp/1 c.i. engines, I think.

 

I guess this fits here....RIP Mr. Hines. A true artist with lead.

 

Back to the work... the whole point here was the throwout bearing which was itself pretty easy. In another interesting spin, the trans is actually a Lasalle sideshift 3 speed trans. Not that that is so significant, but it wasn't the most common match up, and it is key for a later story. Anyway, back to the pics.







I'm not clear on my motivation here. Either I'm flipping myself off for some since-forgotten mistake, or showing off my one remaining uninjured finger, or... dunno.



Well, whatever it was, it's a blur now, since we got it all buttoned up and drove it to the show the next weekend.

Really. Because one of the long term projects we've flirted with is a Mustang II swap...

 

Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, IFS is nice. It's just that the bulky IFS frame combined with a X frame structure makes it a PITA. I'm either going to build an entirely new frame with Mustang II style front end, or modify a Dakota frame.
Right now, I'm running an Omni R&P on a custom cradle.

Dickered around a little today, next weekend will be measuring and welding to get the roof ready for patch panels

Unbolted the U bolts and let the ass down, since this car will be bagged we wanted to get a better feel for the finished lines with the roof. With it sitting up at stock height it was kind of harder to get that since the lower stance would add a different dimension altogether.

So, we took the old alloys off and put on some steelies with some more appropriate tires, stacked up some boards so we can make sure we can fit the floor jack underneath later on and then went to work trying to visualize the end product and make sure the lines are what we wanted.

We had some tissue paper sitting in the garage and got a wild hair up our ass to use it to mock a roofline and patch panel.

We dig it, so that's how it will be. Next weekend is measure, weld, measure, weld, rinse and repeat. The end of the roof repair is in sight, finally.

 

To easier visualize the end result, this car has a nearly identical roof line and chop to ours, even down to the downward sweep of the door frame.

 

Very nice. I'd like to chop my top, just don't have the nerve to cut up such a nice body. Maybe one day.

Thanks. It's a bit nerve wracking for sure, but this was easier since the previous owner hacked it so badly and we had a spare roof.

I like the look of the stock height roofs with an bagged suspension, also. Proportions are crazy in a good way.

 

So this happened over the weekend:


And then 10 minutes later I lost a linkage pin on the shifter going over a rough patch of road and got stuck in 3rd gear until I could pull over and fab a new one up out of a paper clip, haha!

 

Went out for a canoe ride this weekend to start training the dog to sit calmly in a boat.


Also got pulled over for speeding, lol. I told him some blatant lies about how the speedometer's not as accurate as it used to be so that mostly I just paced traffic. He was a younger guy, probably mid-20's, and when he came back from running my license he was full of questions about the truck. So I popped the hood for him & let him sit behind the wheel and rev the engine a couple of times. If his smile had gotten any bigger the top of his head would probably have fallen off, and he shook my hand and let me go without even a warning, lol.

 

That speedo thing is closer to the truth than you'd imagine. Those things get wonky after a few decades.

They do, for sure. When I got the truck it was jumping/twitching the needle all over the place. But I lubricated the cable and the speedo head and that settled it down so it swings smoothly and holds its position. I had the GF pace me in 10mph increments up to about 70 and it was reading within 1-2mph of her car (as close as I can tell, with Ye Olde horizontal speedo), so it's actually still pretty accurate now that it's gotten a little love.

 

Had a workday Sunday where we officially start welding the roof for the first time.

Was a super slow day with constant measuring and eyeballing, cutting.. only managed to lay a few tacks on before calling it an early day.

Next update from my project at least will be when the A pillars are welded.
