Fentanyl is an extremely strong narcotic approximately 80-100 times stronger than morphine. They never asked us for consent about the fentanyl. It was obvious to both my wife and me that the reason they couldn't get her blood pressure up was a combination of the Addisonian crisis and the fentanyl. We were extremely upset, and told them to discontinue the drip.
We had our vet call and talk to the day shift vet, and I went and talked to her in person as well. Finally we got some steroids administered and I went back to see her. Her condition was almost identical to when we dropped her off. The day shift vet called me around 1:30 and told me that she was up walking around, and ate some chicken they fed her. She preferred to keep her overnight again for fluid administration and observation. I found out the same vet was working tonight that was in last night and decided to go pick my dog up at the end of the day before she comes in. I don't want her anywhere near my dog again.
I'm so pissed, because she was there for 8 hours getting completely improper care and could have died because her blood pressure was so low. Her systolic pressure should be between 105-145, and at one point in the night it was 52. Once someone actually listened to us and treated her properly, she turned around in roughly 5 hours. We plan on filing a formal complaint, but not sure how far that will go. Sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent.

This is fucked. Incompetence is what that is and a lack of care. Just because you're a doctor or nurse doesn't mean you possess either. I'm glad she's ok. Not sure how I would handle that. One of the easiest ways to make me mad is fucking with my kids.

We have a dog with canine Addison's. It's tough to deal with and not exactly cheap if it's a bigger dog.

A generic version of percorten just hit the market. It isn't markedly cheaper, but every little bit helps. Our girl gets 1ml every 30 days which isn't terrible. Our vet has a couple patients that take the full 4ml vial every time. I couldn't imagine.

Smartest, most loving dog I've ever been around, she was as good as gone when she was first diagnosed. Now she's a happy, healthy, loving companion again. She'll be 14 in less than a month. She LOVES everyone @ the vet's office! They love her too.

Sounds like your girl must be about the same size as mine. Ours is 45lbs now because she's lost weight, so it works it to roughly $90/month in percorten for her as well. Does yours get prednisone oral daily too?
