Hey John, there is nothing wrong with your setup, did anyone say that? as a matter of fact let me use my 30year old + phase of tits up, looks great especially the AC has a better profile than the DC, just need to use it for gear instead of human cargo.

Thing is nobody is gonna give you kudos and awards for a lift, but for the money it looks great, off roading is not gonna be rock grinding ball busting, just take it easy, love the blue, wish I could have got that color...Happy for ya, one of the better looking 16 AC rides.

Anyhow since your all pumped up, post some pics as you go down the road.

Thx so much for the compliments! White was my first choice, then I saw the BBP! Didnt care if its more work to keep clean! Most all my mod ideas came from TW! The members are great! This will be my Maui Truck! Getting into those awesome surf locations and amazing waterfalls! Will be moving there next year! For now I'll enjoy the Sawtooth's here in Idaho! Inside pic 4 now! Happy Truckin' !

My Jeep Cherokee sounds kinda like that. The suspension is very noisy over rough terrain.

I might look at Toytec Boss vs Icon stage 2 for my new truck. I'll add a new UCA as well. I know the first thing I will do when I get the truck is a topper, then rocksliders, then a few bits of armor underneath. Then I'll worry about the suspension. I just want to zero in on what I think I may want in case a great deal presents itself.

Apparently I missed something and need some help... (pardon the mud)

    5100s.jpg

I am running SCS Stealth 6 (17x8.5) wheels and 265/70/17 KO2s and thought I could set the front 5100s on the first notch (.85) and get enough clearance to keep from rubbing. Though this setup keeps things clear on flat surfaces while turning as shown in photo above, this has not been the case when I turn on any terrain other than flat...especially when I turn left. I would like to do some off-roading but fear my suspension is not quite ready.

EDIT: @Dean724 mentioned 5100s at 1.75 will will most likely need new UCAs so I would like to leave the height at .85 if possible but what do I now need to do to keep things from rubbing under load?

    Thanks for your help

It could be due to the wheels back spacing and off-set (not sure what your wheels spec's are). I have the TRD Pro wheels and ran 265/70/17s on my truck with no lift without any rubbing at all. I have since added Bilstein 5100s and have them set at .85. I have off roaded many times with no rubbing.

Might be good to know, sorry. I have the 17x8.5 version which have 4.3" of backspacing and an offset of -10mm which means very little to me in terms of how to most quickly and easily fix the problem. I welcome your suggestions.

This is probably the best place to ask this- Is there any good place to read up on leaf spring tuning as it pertains to pickups? More specifically, how to make the back end less "jiggly" when there is no load in the bed.

I see add-a-leafs talked about but my understanding is that's more for lifting than ride control, whereas shocks are more for controlling the leaf behavior but provide no lift.

I'm asking because my ultimate goal is a very, very mild lift (like 1.5" front, to level, and 0.5" rear, about as mild as lifts get) but with a little more control on the ass end of the truck.

I would guess this is a wheel backspacing or wheel width issue. I have 265/75 r16s on the stock 7" wide offroad rims. I only rub when I'm fully turned and flexed out over a big bump. Just turning on flat does not get me that close to rubbing.

You may want to look into sumo springs. They replace the bump stop above the leaf springs. They are primarily intended to keep the rear end from sagging while towing loads. That said, it also seems to stabilize the rear end even when there is no load. I had them installed and love them.

Hey guys, long time lurker and first time poster - need some help.

Trying to add the Wheelers Progressive AAL and running into an issue on the rear side. Do I need to remove the clamp holding the leafs together in order to install the AAL and get it to lay flat?

    If so, how is done?

I believe you will need to drill out the rivet or cut the clamp with the progressive AAL setups. With that said you will need one of the aftermarket clamps once installed.

^^^ yes, this. You need to drill the rivet head off, the pry the clamp off in order to install any of the progressive aal's. Not an issue with the single aal however.

Can someone help recommend a setup for me? About to pull the trigger on my first Taco. I only put about 5k a year on my personal truck (I drive a GMC 2500 company vehicle most times). Im looking for a 3" or 4" lift that isn't going to break the bank. I do not do any type of off roading. Mostly looking for the aesthetics of the lift and hoping not to sacrifice too much comfort.

I bought a level kit and gained 2"? Under $900! Installed at dealership. Material & alignment included! I believe a higher lift you'll spend $2000! If I'm correct?

Your right and there is nothing wrong with that thought as long as you intended use matches your hardware choice, I think the look is awesome and for every day driving with a few back roads its useful. But what that $2k does for you besides the offroad performance and on road looks is give you that peace of mind when your a hundred miles off road in the shit..so to speak. Thats when you can pop a cold one and enjoy yourself.....peace of mind.
