My cab fan (heat/AC, not engine cooling) blows only when the knob is set on high. Anything else, nothing.

Is this a common issue? What could the problem be?

Search "blower motor resistor" in the search bar.

It's a common problem on the older second gens. Easy fix though, replace the electrical resistor pack and connector. Done right, it's about $30.

What they said above. At least as far as auto repairs go its pretty cheap & simple.

My fan recently worked only on high, there was corrosion on the resistor pack terminals. Unplug, a squirt of contact cleaner and plug back in and it works but I can see the need for replacement resistor pack in the future. At least it's not buried deep in the hvac system to keep it cool like in some vehicles.

I have replaced this part once on my 2008 (150,000 miles). About two months ago the problem statred again. I ordered the part and naver got around to installing it until today. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and all fan speeds are working. I will keep the part for back up of course.

If it is coming and going like that it isn't a bad resistor it is a loose connector. I'll bet it is burned and getting worse the longer you wait.

This is correct. The resistor pack itself is not the cause of the problem. The problem occurs due to the female terminals on the resistor being too loose, burning the connectors and corresponding wires. Thus the TSB resistor pack with stronger terminals.
