2016 4x4. Dealer told me to use "ECT PWR " when towing my small boat (weight est 2500-3000lbs). I noticed the rpms much higher when this on. In manual it says only "use when high levels of response are desirable ..."
Can someone kindly explain what this is? Thank you

Basically changes the "shift points", if you will, of your transmission.

I've noticed, just messing around with it really, that the low end, seems to "kick-in" quicker from a dead stop. But definitely takes longer for it to shift to the next highest gear.

HAHHAHAHA, I'm quoting myself, I just wanted to add that I can see when hauling fairly heavy loads, this would definitely come in handy for sure. Does make me wonder, now that I think about it, if I put put my truck in 4wd (4hi) with ECT "ON" while in mud/soft sand, if that would actually enhance my rigs capability??? Can hardly wait to try this out the next time I'm in the desert!!!

Anyways, hope this helps. That's all it really is, ECT (a.k.a. Electronic Control Transmission).

I pretty much drive with it on all of the time. I really think that Toyota built the truck with this intention and only had the non ect to set epa and mpg standards.

Exactly what I do. My truck gets better mpg and feels better to drive with ECT on. Actually gets best mileage in town if I shift manually at 4200rrpm
