I talked to Frank Smith with TTFS and he said they are very interested in the Tacoma market. Once they complete all their remote tuning tools it'll be one of their upcoming projects

It would definitely be the solution to many complaints.

I know they'll probably prioritize the 3.5 V6 over the lowly 2.7 4 banger, but damn, I feel like that 2.7 could really wake up with a good tune.

Of course, coming from a WRX, Cobb tuning has me spoiled rotten with the AccessPort. It's such an amazing product unlike a standard flash loader- real time logging, display of pretty much every parameter the CAN-BUS tracks, it's a wonderful little product.

Having tuned older Japanese cars (Miatas, Subarus, Hondas) I loathe the idea of piggybacks that just screw with the MAF signal, as it usually means you're then permanently locked in a battle with the ECU trying to "learn" it's way back out of the performance gains and back to its normalized parameters.

Turbos and direct injection are the future, ford is having very good success with the ecoboost and I bet in the next 2 years they will release info for a V8 ecoboost for the super duty series (alternative to diesel and large displacement V10's), toyota needs to get on the wagon.

Edit: apparently the v8 ecoboost is slated for the 2017/18 raptor.

If everyone wants a turbo truck just spring for the raptor, ford has already announced the twin turbo v6 for their 2017 release.

turbo v6 has been in the f150s since '11 or '12, great reliability and track record, MPG is great, they are putting the 3.5L twin turbo in the expedition's and those are very fast vehicles with that engine and a 6spd auto, and it still gets 20+ MPG on the highway.

I wouldn't say great reliability, there's a reason they are upgrading the ecoboost with direct and port injection. Also real life mpg is on par with the v8. The main advantage is torque at low rpms. The 2.7 gets slightly better mpg then the 3.5 eco/5.0 Na.

With all that said the 2.0 from Lexus would be a great fit in the Tacoma and be a good balance of power and mpg, but with Tacoma sales the way they are it won't happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if toyota decides to turbo the 3.5 sometime in the future.

I would get one in a heartbeat if they do actually go through with it. :fingerscrossed:

I don't see how the 2.0 turbo would be a great fit for the tacoma seeing how it weighs more.

They wouldn't even give the 4.0L Tacoma the dual VVT engine, so why would they go all out with a turbo motor now?

Because it would have 80 more HP than the tacoma 2.7 4, 258 lb-ft of torque from 1650 rpm, and get better gas mileage. It may be a couple tenths slower to 60, but still way faster than the tacoma 2.7. Who wouldn't want low end torque and better mpg in their truck.

Well from what I've heard, the 2.7 is a dog, unless u got a manual. So pretty much anything would be quicker than that. Will be interesting to see...seems like the tacoma is getting heavier in each new gen, if it were the opposite i could see it.

Lexus has really jumped on the turbo bandwagon. My wife just got a NX a couple weeks ago. The salesman said they are adding that 2.0 turbo to more cars and developing other turbo motors. I would not be surprised to see a turbo version of the 3.5 to go in the next Tundra and maybe a new turbo 4 cylinder to go in the Tacoma. The 2.0 really is a pretty nice engine in her NX, has some pep to it, not sure how it would work in a truck with towing and a heavier vehicle, but Ford has shown they can get good power and low end torque out of their turbos. Toyota has to do something with the new regulations, Lexus is going with the turbo's so I would assume Toyota will soon start following.

The GM 2.0T is a nice engine. Seems to be a popular displacement for most manufacturers.

3.5 turbo for base motor in Tundra maybe.....if they go backwards motor wise in the Tundra they will probably lose sales.....if its in line with what the ecoboost does now or better then sales may benefit...I personally would like to see a turbo on the 5.7 or the 4.6...
