I opened up my shipment from ShopTRD.com for the OEM roof rack. Both rails were there, but no hardware to be found. Yesterday I called their customer service (Toyota of Richardson) and originally asked to have another one sent to me because I saw evidence of prior installation attempt. They said we will send you the hardware bag overnight. I agreed to that and hardware arrived today. There is one piece I don't see - the yellow plastic "nub" (need 2) that goes in the front of the bracket. I had one attached to the bracket and the other nowhere to be found, nor was their a set in my newly arrived hardware bag.

To save me from having to send this whole thing back, please help me clarify what I need to complete installation:

    1) This yellow plastic piece - would I be able to find this in a hardware or auto parts store? What is the proper "term" for it? I'd rather just get it locally so I can install.

    2) This is the hardware bag they sent me. Does this bag look complete? I don't want to find out halfway through install with open holes in my roof that I'm missing pieces.

    Much obliged...

I don't recall my clip being yellow.
If it were me, I'd send the thing back...
Or if you prefer to avoid that... just take the plastic clip to an auto body shop. They'll have ones just like it, or really close.

Yes they do come with yellow clips. One per side as stated above. I installed mine last year and can't even rememeber the steps now. It was very easy when following the instructions that came with it. I'm pretty sure the instructions came with a parts list. I'd findout what is missing and call them back. They might know what the yellow clip is called.

Yup, make sure you follow instructions exactly. I skipped a step about snapping off some little clips and wouldn't you know it, the rack didn't sit flush on the roof. Had to take it apart and reinstall (which is easy)....follow instructions and you'll be fine.

If I remember correctly, the yellow clips were not part of the part bag, they came pre-installed on the rails. I tried finding a couple myself when I had an issue with one of mine with no luck. I was told I'd had to buy the rails to get the yellow clips.

fafafahey: The yellow clips come pre-installed in the racks, and yes your hardware bags look complete. (I just installed my oem roof racks today)

I wonder if that's why the front end of the racks isn't sitting flush with my roof. I *did* clip the sides off those ditch clips though. :notsure:
I can push down and it sits flush while I hold it, but it won't stay that way. I found it difficult to remove the rack once the yellow clip is seated into the bracket. How'd you do it?

I think this is just the way they are manufactured. I have the same issue, one side on the front won't sit completely flush. I even had the rails & brackets replaced and it did the same exact thing in the same place, though slightly less noticable. I did have my clips broken off as instructed both installs.

Its almost like the front-facing tab of that bracket needs to be bent down a bit lower to pull the rack down firmer against the roof. I suppose it would be next to impossible to seat the yellow clip then.

I actually tried that with the second install with no luck. All it did was make it a little harder to get the yellow clip to properly seat into the bracket completely. I believe the defect is in the rail itself. Both of the driver's side rails displayed the same issue. I've grown used to it now and it doesn't bother me.

If you are getting rid of the rubber weatherstrips on a double cab, I ruined mine trying to install a Thule rack to the stock holes. Send me a PM with a price, thanks!

Okay, so I'm going to Zombie this thread to share what I have learned.

No Autozone or replacement clip I could find was effective at keeping the front of the rack down. The problem is the hole in the metal bracket is bigger than most every clip out there.

Toyota has no part number for the yellow clip. This means, the only way to replace the yellow clip is to order the entire rack. My dealer wasn't crazy about doing this because it still leaves them with a roof rack that can't be sold.

However, if your dealer calls Toyota USA, they can file paperwork to request lost or missing parts. Toyota, in-turn, contacts the manufacturer of the rack, obtains the missing yellow clips and then releases them back to the dealer. This takes two to six weeks.

Once we were able to learn that yellow clips could be replaced, my local dealer ordered a new roof-rack, overnight, and says they will replace my yellow clips, no problem.

This would all be so much easier if we only knew who the manufacturer of the factory roof rack was. I'm sure a couple of phone calls and we'd have yellow clips by the handfulls.

No, that white clip will not work. You must obtain the yellow clip. Theres no other way to make it work correctly.

You have to bend the metal bracket down so that the roof rack sits flush with the roof.

Dude, read post #14. You know, the post right before your first reply. It's all explained there. I know it's not the answer you are looking for, but thats the only known answer.

I read over this post and it seems like those yellow clips can’t be replaced thru Toyota. I bought a new rack today and damaged one clip during installation. Has anyone found a clip that works as good as the factory yellow clip? I hope so!
