I flushed my radiator and got almost all the Toyota red out. Still a very light tint after 5 flushes. I added Prestone 50/50 universal. Is this okay?

    Why ask after it's done?

What does Prestones web site say about using it as a replacement for OE products?

Just wondering cause I was unable to get all the red out. I'll check the Prestone website but the bottle insists its good for all types of cars. However I have seen the speculation over this online but I thought it was mainly that it can't be mixed or used to top off Toyota red.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I don't see any problem with it. I run the universal stuff in all my vehicles, no problems at all. I don't see the point in paying $30 per gallon of the Toyota stuff just because it says Toyota on it when the universal stuff does the job just fine.

I agree with the last poster.
It is almost impossible to get every last drop of coolant out , and in my opinion, you have probably done the best humanly possible.
As long as you are using a product that is compatible with all other products, I don't see a problem.

Why do people say to use distilled water then?

Hard water, when heated to close to , or boiling will create calcium formations when it cools back dowm.
These are in the form of scales.
Over time the scales get larger and start to block circularion, and eat at the metals and plastics in the cooling system.
    Resulting in failure.
An engine , with a 190* thermostate, 16 pound radiator cap ,will actually have a coolant temperature well over boiling .
And this is how those deposits form.

So you know if you messed up, or REALLY MESSED UP.
The distilled water is reall a buckshot scam.
Most of you that live in the public water supply system, don't even need to worry about it.
It is those of us that would be considered country folk, have god water, right from the river, or ground , or stream....

Yup I had to buy jugs of distilled water cause I have a well and very hard water. And I ran out of jugs with an empty radiator and no way to go get more. Poor judgement for sure.
