winter gas mileage BLOWS!!!

So far, this winter I have gotten like 300 miles to the tank... summer I get like 400!!!

I wish winter would go away!! Can't wait for summer again...

i can't work on my truck when it is cold outside!! *sigh*

You really get 400miles to a tank in a 4.0? Holy crap! Are you 4x4?

 

I suggest moving south...

I moved to cali last spring and i miss snow and cold so much...

 

Moving south doesn't help, still the same crappy gas. :/

Winter diesel bits the big ONE also! I use an additive to boost it! Maybe try the same with your gas. My wife drives to many miles to do that to he tacoma, but maybe I should try it anyway? Food for Thought!!!

 

Currently 15.72mpg. Fucking cold weather gas.

 

In warm weather I typically get 400 miles from a tank of gas by driving 15-25 miles after the low fuel warning light comes on.

So far this winter, I'm seem to be getting 20-25 miles less per tank.

 

Winter gas is a different blend, you will always get worse gas mileage. Mine typically drops about 1.5+ mpg. I wanna know what shit you're adding to your gas to get 400 miles per tank... are you on crack?

Mine's not a 4x4 but can do over 400 a tank. I'm lucky to have relatively flat ground and a sedate drive to/from work every day.

Winter gas is always bad but there are other factors too:

- Lower temp engine/driveline fluids have higher viscosity, sapping energy
- Colder air is more dense, thus more aerodynamic drag on your vehicle
- Don't forget to air up your tires for winter! Cold weather = lower tire pressure.

And yeah...winter gas sucks...

 

I bought my truck in the winter, I can't wait to see what my summer milage is, I can get 18.5 now and 21.9 on the highway............v-6

Yeah, but you'd think you'd get a bit of a performance boost from the extra cold air.

 

Any benefit from that is likely going to be offset by the chilled down fluids and greater atmospheric drag. Yes there's technically more oxygen in each combustion due to the denser air, and yes theoretically the MAF should allow the ECU to adjust for that, but it ain't no F/I...

 

That's crap.

 

I think most of those fluids warm up to operating temperature when in use and the denser air for aerodynamics is probably negated by the HP increase.

I think the majority of it is probably due to gas changes and tires that are sagging because of the cold. Make sure they stay properly inflated and I'd imagine it should be similar mileage. Also, try and monitor your driving habits. The single biggest factor in ANY case that affects MPG is driving style.
