True...but leaving them on means not replacing the weatherstripping each time as well.

    I'm with steelhd...Softopper removes in under 3 minutes...+/- 15 seconds, if I'm holding a beer. :drunk:

the only reason the bestop takes a bit longer is i have to remove the windows, but i wouldn't trade my windows for the solid sides of the softtopper EVER!! :D

Well, I'm usually not racing anyone to break camp, and I suppose Bestop/Softopper is a choice best left to the individual.

Opinions I have found are like belly buttons...

My weatherstrip is stuck to the topper rail but I left the plastic strip on the other side. If I were to ever take it off it wont stick to the truck bed. It hasn't moved at all and water doesn't get underneath even with a pressure washer.

Gotcha...my reference is to using the double stick camper seal available at Home Depot. Comes in a 30 ft roll IIRC for around $17.

just ordered my softopper from the manufacturer! pretty excited I think it will work out great for my needs. I have a silver truck... I had a hard time deciding between black and charcoal. Ultimately went with the charcoal. the black seems to contrast the truck too much in photos. A few charcoal on silver photos I've seen look great.

Anyone know if a softopper from a 2nd gen will fit on a 1st gen? Both 6ft beds, just not sure how the installation or hardware will differ...

    Three Softopper questions:
    - is the Gen3 short bed (60") part number the same, including the rear window, as Gen2? Gen3 has the curved tailgate top, but I'm not sure how precisely the Softopper window conforms to the tailgate anyway. Is the bottom edge of the window just flexible, or does it have any stiffener rod in it? If a stiffener, is it above the tailgate with a fabric flap below?
    - the mesh rear window ... is it used instead of the clear window, or in conjunction with it? If either/or, is it reasonable to travel with the plastic window, and swap in the mesh when camping at night? Can the front window be opened up for ventilation, even if it's not screened?
    - OK, now the tough one ... I regularly carry a bike which comes out to the upper rear corners of the space inside my cab high shell. I'm considering replacing it (ARE Z Series) with a Softopper. Can someone with a DCSB Tacoma (preferably Gen3, but I suspect Gen2 is close enough) measure the distance in from the sides (or from the truck centerline), and back from the inner rear surface of the tailgate, as well as the height up from the bed floor or top of tailgate/bed rail, to that corner corner of the Softopper? I hope that's clear. I see that the Softopper has no framework in that area, and I suspect the width and height are OK, but side view show a pretty pronounced rake to the rear window, so the effective length of the bed seems significantly reduced at the top. Maybe this picture of my current setup will clarify what I'm getting at. I would like to get an inch or so more clearance from the bars, in each direction, than what you see in this photo. In my rig the end of the handlebar grip is about 6.5" behind the tailgate inner surface, 13" above the top of the tailgate, and 19-3/4" out from the centerline of the truck. Thanks.

Got my topper in and on today, and it's great after day one; but I have a question. I can't seem to get that spot right behind the cab to be nice and tight like the rest of the topper. You can see this spot on the top of the side panels closest the cab.

Anyone have some ideas how to fix this?
