Took my 2016 Tacoma in for 5000 mile service which we know, per the service schedule provided by Toyota states rotate tires and check ALL fluids and lube the drive shafts.

When R&H called me to schedule the appointment, I specifically asked if "all fluids" include the differentials, transfer case and transmission. I was told yes that does include those fluids.

After my appointment, I was given paperwork stating all fluids were checked and were ok. The service advisor also said that the truck was washed as pert of their service as well. While I was not expecting it to be washed I wasn't minding that at all. Well, to my surprise it had NOT been washed (which would not have been an issue if they hadn't made a point to tell me that it had been). After seeing that, I was suspect about the other work to be done (tires rotated and ALL fluids to be checked.) I crawled under my truck to double check what was and wasn't done. I don't trust dealerships to actually perform the work that they are supposed to do so before I took it to them, I had discretely painted the various fill bolts with black or silver paint witness marks. I had also marked each wheel to verify if the tires were rotated. The tires WERE rotated but the differentials, transfer case and transmission were not touched. At this point I was so disgusted I left.

They had one chance to make a first impression and to do the service they were signing off on. And if they can't do the actual work on their on, I don't trust them to do it PROPERLY if I challenged them and had them take in back in. On the way home, I called them to discuss what had transpired. At this time, they started back peddling about the car wash and making excuses as to why it wasn't done. After that, they back peddled about the service claiming that only under hood fluids are checked while the full fluid analytics are only done at 15,000 miles. We all know that is bogus since we know the trucks better than they do.

Sadly if I were to trade this truck in, because the service records states that that it WAS done, it would be classified as a certified pre-owned, but the manufacture specified service was NOT done. After this experience, I don't trust R&H to touch my truck, perform any work on it, nor would I trust any "certified" vehicle that they are selling.

Interesting. I bought mine from there too. I'll have my service next month, I was already planing on marking my truck. I'll insist on the fluid checks, and see what happens.

All I can say is, they don't call them stealership for nothing, they do earn it lmaoo!
But really, and in all fairness to them and the techs, the factory (all makes/models) only pay them for just enough time to get the keys, bring in the shop, jack it up, fill out the paper work and that's it!
Your tire rotation was prob done pro bono. You're lucky, many ppl don't get that much.
The two year 24k care is a joke, I'd take cash back in a second.
The tech may have got paid $10-15 for the (ball buster) job, and it's all that's worth to him. But to us it's a $39k outlay.
Thanks but no thanks, If I can't DIY, I'll take it to ppl I know, and can trust to take my money but do the job.
    Cheers!

I hear you. As a customer it irks me that they make the big deal out of the "free complete service" then not do it. If they are not planning on doing it, stop blowing smoke up my arse and lying about it. I mean, DANG, they couldn't even take it through their own (probably automated) carwash... how hard can that be to do? :D
I have a case of Toyota oil filters already and plan on doing that myself and will definitely be doing the diffs and transfer case. The transmission check does concern me though. Any TW members in Marylandstan have any dealer/shop that they WOULD recommend?

Call or email Toyota Care, this will have to be addressed once you contact them. REally the only way to deal with dealers to keep them honest is to report shit like this to Toyota.

I had similar BS done... took my truck in for an "OIL CHANGE and LUBE" - they did neither, I specifically asked them to perform those tasks. Sent e-mail to Toyota Care opened up a ticket, the service manager called me. I said "I asked you to perform a service for me" "Was it completed?" answer = "no"

I asked the manager if he didn't see any issues with that. Then I YELLED AT HIM

"WRIGHT THIS DOWN - EVERY 5k MILES YOU CHANGE MY OIL AND LUBE THE DRIVE LINE i DONT CARE IF I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT" "Did you write that down in my permanent record?" answer = "yes".

"Ok good now I'm going to go crawl under my truck and do your freaking job for you, thank you very much".

DONT GO TO JERRY'S TOYOTA EITHER.

I had a miserable experience for my 1k. Nasty attitudes, and they tried to deliver the wrong truck to me at the end. I correct them and say, "no... that's my truck right there".... They apologize and have their lot guy hop in it for the wash. No big deal. 60ish year old dude. Seemed nice enough at first. So I watch him sit in my truck fiddling with the knives, flashlight, etc in my center console. He's in there for 5 mins as the wash line is really slow. Again, no big deal, I know exactly what's in the center console, he'd be dumb to steal anything....

.... so the older guy gets out of my truck in front of me and I say thank you.... no response or eye contact.... I hop in the truck and BAM I get smacked in the face with the single worst disgusting body odor I've ever experienced. Horrific. Like that episode of Seinfeld with the valet. He had been marinating in my truck for 5mins and it was fucking EXCRUCIATING. I'm into team sports and wilderness survival - stinky men are commonplace in both. This was unlike anything I've ever smelled that was alive. I immediately hopped out of the truck. The service girls asked me to leave though, " Mr. ____ you're free to go now!" No way was I getting in there. It smelled far too foul. I politely asked the service girl if she would mind sitting in my truck. She hopped in and couldn't believe the horror...

... I explain that obviously this is embarrassing, and she has no control of the situation, but it's not ok for that man to be getting in and out of peoples cars. My trucks gonna have to sit with the windows down for a while before I drive it. She literally says this to me: "Well I gotta be honest with ya, I just put my two-week notice in, so my care level is pretty low right now....". She went on to explain how negative of a work environment it is, etc. She obviously hated her job. Which I totally empathize with, I worked in dealerships for many years and still do, but this is not about her. Now is not the time. you can't be stinking up customer cars and talking that way.

All in all, it was a terrible experience and I will never go back there. I told her that in a very non-confrontational way, and she told me "Good, that's a smart idea, I wouldn't come here either". I just bit my lip, let it air out for a while, and bought $10 worth of air fresheners.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Toyota Care only covers tires and oil, changing differential fluids or transmission fluid at 500/5000 miles is retarded and absolutely unnecessary. There's no way to "check" the differential fluid without draining it all.

To check the diff fluid: unscrew plug - stick finger in to see where the oil level is...simple.

... Wait what? Who was talking changing transmission fluid?? So let me get this straight, you bomb in here about something completely off topic and everyone else is retarded?

BTW the term "retarded" in the 21st century is considered politically incorrect AT THE VERY LEAST. What's wrong with you?

Toyota Care covers anything the customer needs/requires help with! Simple... where did you get that idea they only work on oil changes? Now see here I'm going to substitute a different term for retarded.

    That's idotic...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the toyota care pamphlet have a little asterisk next to "all fluids" where you then go read all of the fluids this excludes (transmission, differential, etc)?

At a minimum, assuming the 2016 is like the 2nd gens, the differential fluid isn't recommended to be changed until 30,000mi. Toyota Care stops at 25,000mi.

    Any questions?

I never requested ANY fluids be changed (oil or otherwise).
