Wow at the shitty weekend of mods for me. First the tweeters I purchased were too deep so they wouldn't fit in my front tweeter pods. So I decided I would just cut holes in my rear door panels and just modify them so the tweeters would go in those doors. Get one hole cut and go to pull the tweeter out of its box and SNAP!...the damn thing broke. So I've gone thru the steps to get that issue resolved. Next, the"cheap" jack I ordered is too short to jack my 4runner up. Oh yea, and my tire iron has come up missing so I couldn't even put my wheel spacers on if I wanted to. Happy Monday boys!

So I've been in conversation with them a little bit about this, they don't have the adjusters on them (which I was planning to get), what I need to know is how hard are these to adjust and set at what level I want them and is there anything they have to do prior to me getting them? @TacoFMS I thought you had given some insight about King's being "made to order", but I can't remember?

I believe he said that if you order them from king, they will valve them however you want before shipping them. Of course, that means paying full price.

If I remember correctly, the valving makes them smoother or stiffer at different speeds and over different types of terrain.

You can have them valved for custom setups, other than a revalving they only adjustment is height. Which does somewhat change ride quality because the more preload the stiffer the ride. You are compressing the coil in that case. Although it is not a simple equation because most of the coils are not progressive or digressive but rather static. Which means they are what they are. You crank them down and sure it gets stiffer but mainly it just eliminates travel far more than just changing ride quality. You can get a stiffer ride through revalving and having zero preload than a soft valve with some preload.

I hope that makes sense. Main thing is too much preload is bad in many ways. Never try to dial in a ride with preload alone. You will blow out the shock quickly and risk other damage.

so I guess what I need to know is, what can I get out of the standard King coilovers without compression adjusters that DSM is selling? Can I get the lift/performance I want with no valving?

Inside the " shock" portion of the coil over are valves. They look like little discs with holes in them. It's what determines how the shock fluid flows in the shock and how it dampens and rebounds. Changing the number or type of these discs changes the fluids ability to travel which changes the shock characteristics.

All depends on what you want them to do. Call DSM and talk to them. They know what questions to ask you.
