Km2s have easily been my favorite offroad tire that's still very street able. Excellent in mud, excellent on rocks and excellent on woody trails. That's all the south is.

I also have the KM2s. I went a little different than most and got the 255/85/16s. It's a 33 that's pretty skinny. I've been happy with them so far. Last time we were at LBL, there was an obvious difference between me having those, and @rngr having 265/75/16s. The downside is I can't safely air down as much as I'd like because I'd risk blowing a bead on a stock 7.5" wheel. As far as rubbing is concerned, with my tires I did nothing except remove the mud flaps. On the stock Pro suspension (which is about a 2" lift up front), I never rubbed anywhere with the sway bar attached. I have since added a set of Toytec top plate spacers and removed the sway bar. I plan on finding out if it's rubbing anywhere this weekend, but I doubt it will be an issue.

My halfway almost-worn-the-fuck-out 285 KO's did pretty well :D ran them at 18psi this last trip, and ran 15 at the turkey bay june '15 mini trip with no issues

I'm leaning towards cooper discoverer stt pro's for my next tire

I really like the ST Maxx's on the wife's 4Runner. I think my next tires will be in the 315 variety.

If I could afford tires/gears sooner I'd sell Carter my tires and buy some KM2s in 315/75/16. But I can't, so I won't. Maybe in the fall, definitely by spring.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
I've 285/70-17 Nitto Terra Grappler G2. Trimmed a small sliver off bottom back edge of the fender flares and otherwise didn't rub. (no mud flaps, OEM sport wheels w/ 1" wheel spacer)
If the tire was any bigger, I'd have to cut the cab mount and some more plastic.
Pricing on Nitto tends to be really good.
I do a lot of hwy miles and they've been great for that. Only a little noisier than a street tire, not as loud as a mud tire.
Have done fine off-road as well. Good enough for me anyway.
Do wish they "looked" more aggressive...

Opinion only here, but I think that on the trail, having larger diameter might be at least as important as tread pattern. Tires don't have to bite as hard if you aren't dragging bottom. I'll likely get the same tires next time but in the taller 285/75-17 size.

My offer still stands at $1,000 for 5 tires and wheels. Let me know when you're ready to make it happen.

Edit- Actually, your tires have worn since last week so my offer is now $998.73

This isn't even possible but if it were, your opinion is wrong. Haha a 22" drag slick would make it just as far in a mud hole as a 52" drag slick with all other things equals. Now obviously they can't be equal (weight and width would vary drastically in that real world scenario) but if traction is the ultimate issue then the tire height wouldn't matter.

Now if you want to use a scenario where you have a 31" mud tire and a 37" street tire and they are trying to climb the same hill with a 2' ledge in the middle then I would say the 37s would probably make it further just for the fact you could use momentum to get over the bump where the 31" may not ever make it over. But those are big differences in tire height.

This is just really hard to debate because you aren't taking a singular situation and deciding which is better. If the tires are close in size and there's a chance I may not be able to drive at all because I can't get traction or if I can get traction very well but will probably bottom out a lot, I'm taking the traction. I can use driver skill and a variety of tools and methods to avoid bottoming out or work through it. No traction is the last thing I ever want. Besides AIDS of course ..... or male on male sex with me in the middle ..... or to pass out while hammered with my tounge in a girls vagina only to wake up and realize that wasn't her sweet cherry tasting panties I pulled out of the way with my teeth ..... ok so there's a few things I can think of I would want last but you know what I mean

LOL. within reason dude. Doubt many people consider slicks for their tacomas. But yes, lots of different conditions to consider...

have you tried it to know it's the last thing you'd want?

Cody has run 37" slicks on his truck for 4 years now. Lol (you may not know who that is but if you do, it's funny)

And no. I'll have to find out tonight ....
