Not a lot of people explore this corner of the state. Curious to see a trip report when you finish up!

I have what is probably a very stupid question... I got a cheap CB and a mag mount antenna this weekend, and when I turn on the radio the display is blank. I wired the radio power cord to a USB cord since that's what I had lying around, and I'm wondering if the problem could that the radio isn't getting enough power? Or maybe the display is blank because the antenna isn't tuned at all? Just wanted to see if there was something obvious that I'm missing since I know nothing about electrical stuff...:help:

    Yes.
If you're powering the radio with a USB port, that's not enough voltage. USB is 5v, and the radio is looking for between 10v and 15v.

If you want to come down to where my hotel is, I'd be happy to take a look one night this week. Y'all have certainly given me enough help I'm happy to pay it forward with my areas of expertise.

I'm apparently just across the street from the Park Meadows Mall at the Hyatt Place.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering... I'll buy a 12v plug tomorrow and wire that in and see if it works. If not I may take you up on that offer- thanks!

Have you tried grounding the lead off your antenna since we wired it up?

    Yes.
MSG me, and I'll give you my phone number. We can coordinate meeting up and I'll take a look for you!

our plastic fantastic beds sure don't help. That's for sure.

    ...

    ...

Also I'd like to extend a deep and heartfelt thanks to @ebbs15, @Gramps, @3378jakesr5, @odomandr, @CoBackCountry, @teamhypoxia, and I'm sure I've forgotten one or more others for all the help you all have offered me today. It's sappy, but the Toyota Off-Road/Overland community has shown me more kindness and generosity than any other group I've been a part of, ever. I promise I'll neither forget, nor will I ever overlook an opportunity of my own to pay it forward.

    Thank you all so much!

I haven't made it past Winter Park yet, so it'll be all new for me. But I've seen pictures from previous years along the route and looking forward to it! Some new sections, unmaintained roads.. unknown conditions. And miles and miles from any other people! Thursday-Sunday... or longer should produce a ton of pictures, and hopefully the skies will cooperate for night photography as well.

Don't use a plug at all. Get power straight from the battery or the junction at the under hood fuse box.

Very Very sad day in deed :(
I may still have a small stash of Dublin Dr Pepper stored away. One day it'll be worth millions! ;)
