To @eon_blue's credit, it was time to replace the clutch anyhow.

Ahh don't you just love manual trannies. Mine almost caused me to run over my auto shop teacher one time

For the record, not my fault! :anonymous:

Lol its true! I always leave my runner in neutral when I park it and use the start clutch cancel button to start the car. Well I let my teacher drive it into the shop and he parked it in neutral. Since he was to first to ever drive my car I didn't think to check that I was in neutral so the thing jumped. 2 very important lessons were learned that day. I learned to always check that I'm in neutral and he learned to never stand in front of a students car

You always leave it in neutral? I don't trust my parking brake that much lol.

Oh and maybe you can help me with this...I got my '04 a couple months back, 24k miles on it practically brand new. But when I press the clutch start cancel button and try to start up the truck, the engine just chugs real slowly and doesn't turn over  I haven't brought it in yet over the issue as it runs and drives great otherwise, but I can't figure out why it won't fire when I use the CSC button. I've searched the forums to no avail...

Yep! 24,000 on the odometer when I bought it. He traded it in on a new '16 and I bought it from Toyota in San Diego less than 12 hours after they listed it, lol.

It wasn't exactly cheap...but I really wanted a first gen (I lament the end of the compact truck era) so I jumped on it

I do. Only left it in 1st maybe 5 times the whole time I've owned it.

I assume it starts fine when you just push the clutch in? My best guess without seeing what it does would be that there is some corrosion in the switch connection. Mine is the opposite though. I can only start it using the start clutch cancel switch. If i try it just holding the clutch in it just acts like the clutch isn't pressed. I know it has something to do with the wire that connects to the clutch but I just never cared enough to look into it. I like using the button, especially with my new rocker switch I substituted for it. Strange thing is the clutch works every time for my old teacher. No idea why :notsure:
Will do. I'll gladly take ownership of your truck. Maybe it'll actually get up some hills without spinning wheels :luvya:

Yeah she starts up like a champ when I push in the clutch. Every time, without fail. I was leaning toward an electrical issue too. Doesn't really make much sense otherwise. The previous owner did a few quirky things with it, one of which was he installed an electric cooling fan for the radiator which is great and all being that the truck is supercharged, but the fan doesn't come on/off automatically....there's a switch inside the cab that turns it on/off. Needless to say, I leave it on all the time because I don't want my engine to overheat if I were to forget to turn it on, but it makes me wonder if something went awry with the wiring and somehow affected the CSC switch, or maybe it's taking just enough power away from the battery to stop the engine from turning over when using the CSC

Well it tens to be when someone adds a switch like that they suck power away from something else. Its like my friends suburban. The po added so much shit that the original factory stuff stopped working correctly due to a lack of power. Granted I don't know why a fan switch would affect a CSC, but some people are idiots when it comes to wiring. First thing I would check is if there is anything biting into the switch wiring that shouldn't be there. If you're going to the HB meet on the second I'd be happy to help you try and diagnose it

I can't imagine an electric fan even makes a vehicle battery notice it's attached...

Although I always make sure to turn off my vent blower before turning the truck back on... so what the fuck do I know?

Easy to test: shut off fan when starting and see what happens.

Cool! Always looking forward to meeting new faces. Some of the old ones kind of suck *cough* Denny *cough* @Nicklovin *cough cough*

Jk those guys are cool. I'll bring some of my electrical tools and see if we can get this figured out

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Tomorrow I'll check and see if turning the Flex-a-Lite fan off makes a difference...I've read on their website that it does draw a bit of power so that might be the issue. If not, hopefully we can narrow it down at the meet.

You're forgiven for the drink, but must have 1 more to pay penitence.

    In my defense, I agree.
