77000 Miles and Just Oil Changes

    I have a 2005 Toyota tacom trd Sport Sr5.. The only thing I have done to it was change the oil and brakes... I mean really thats it... I want to treat her right for Christmas.. What maitnence should I do.. I do not have the book or I would not ask.. I heard some people warn me about the timing belt and others say do the tune up at 75 some say 100... Any advice...

    Stick on hood scoop from Autozone.
    Definitely want to take a look at the belts and pulleys. I replaced all of mine at 50,000.

    air filter, oil change, grease driveshaft and transfer case, spark plugs, change out differential oil, tire rotation, check brakes.

    The drive shaft and transfer case is something I could do by myself or I have to bring it in...

    I think like $250 for parts, my dad and I installed everything ourselves then had a local shop look at everything to make sure we did everything right. :p

    You have a timing chain no maintance required not a timing belt

    Im clueless..... Thats what happens when u have a truck that nothing ever goes wrong on....LOL.... So I have a chain... Do they ever go... Or do they need to be replaced at a certain amout of miles like the belt.???

    No they are good for lifetime Ive had 80's Toyota trucks with timing chains never had to replace one. One of those trucks had 290,000 miles when i sold it still original timing chain. I still see the truck around town runing like a champ just remember to change your oil regularly don't neglet your truck

    Timing chains are very durable, but sometimes their tension actuators get a little loose after many miles.

    If I were you, I'd be more concerned with your spark plugs, fluids, and greasing. Look in your owners manual at the 30,000mi/60,000mi service interval and make sure all that is taken care of.

    Might not be a bad idea to flush/replace the engine coolant as well at that mileage, and if its an Auto-Trans, have the trans fluid changed.

    I'd say look over the maintainance manual. Spark plugs, engine a/f, in cabin a/f, oil, oil filter and lube the driveline components are all that is required at 30K unless you towed 15K or more miles of the first 30K miles. A lot of people say change rear diffy fluid, transfer case, etc... but it's not required according to the manual for most drivers.
    I haven't checked the manual for anything past 30K but would only recommend following the manual. No need to spend money on something Toyota doesn't recommend.
    I've followed this philosophy on the wife's Sequoia. It has 132,000 original miles and is still going strong. Original diffy, tranny, engine, and everything else.

    I disagree. I have had 2 4runners (84 and 85) and an 81 celica all needed timing chains ( all at around 300,000 miles). My one 4runners chain got so lose it ate a hole in the water pump housing.
    Personally I prefer a belt and would rather pay $200 every 60,000 miles to have it replaced and know that it has been done.

    Just my opinion though as all my cars have had high miles

    300,000 generally speaking is considered beyond the expected life of the motor...hence why most companies say they are good for the life of the motor (most car companies put that around 250k miles tops). Toyota and Honda however...well, that's an easy number to blow away.

    Your point about the loose chain is what I was getting at earlier...checking the chain tension every 30,000 miles or so and adjusting as necessary is a good idea.
