What does a tow package have to do with it?

Because on ones with tow packages, the majority of them have been 1 quart low on fluid because of the external tranny cooler, being added that they didn't account for in the tranny, and have acted very funny, kind of like what he described. Mine was acting very funny also, I took it to the dealership, and it ended up being 1 quart low like the others with the tow package. It made a night and day difference

I think the theory is the TRDOR with tow package were being delivered with low transmission fluid levels.

My sport 4x4 with tow was low also. Since topping off the atf the cruise doesn't seem to downshift as much but the truck seems to be perfectly happy at 3k-3500 rpm so if it downshifts I don't really care.

I don't understand how being 5-10% low on fluid causes all these issues. I think it's placebo and all the groupthink on this site!

Do you have a 3rd gen? I don't think it's a placebo when you notice things stop happening that were annoying the hell out of you.

Just drove my 2nd gen from Texas to North Carolina and back. The trip back was with a 1200 pound u-haul 5x9 trailer with ramp and a 700 pound Polaris Sportsman 570. Cruise control all the way there and back. I have more detail on MPG's, RPM's, etc. if anyone is interested (for comparison).

3rd gen TRD OR w/tow. Just did a 900 mile road trip CO to AZ. Cruise at 75(77 actual with tire size), wanted to stay in 4th at 5k+ rpm. No cruise, kept jumping between 5th and 6th. Would reach speed, shift to 6th and start to lose speed and slight pressure on long peddle would drop to 5th to regain desired speed. Very windy so may have affected it but very annoying either way. Still love the truck but going into dealer tomorrow to check fluid based on others observations and experiences.

Any 6-speed auto tranny, and it didn't matter if they were mated to the V6 or 4-banger. It seems to be corrected now, but the earlier trucks had the issue. I was down 1/2 quart, but since getting topped off everything has been smooth. Cruise is steady and mileage has improved .5 MPG per tank average (so far).

What gear were you in, D? ECT on? If you were going from 7200'-9000' in a mountain pass that trans is going to hunt all day long and peg rpms in whatever gear it finds that will meet the predetermined speed you set in CC. Go try that same ride in 4th gear with CC on and report back.

I know mine was. But I don't know that it's limited to the TRDOR with tow package.

FYI, while listening to local radio this weekend the car show was on. GM is sending out debit cards, or extending warranties for 2015 purchasers of Envoy/Acadia/Traverse for lower mileage than advertised.

I tested the cruise control last weekend it doesn't seem do anything that didn't make sense.. Going up hill the truck is going to rev highter to keep speed.. Perhaps people are flipping the knob up which will try to speed up to previous set speed.. Flicking down will set the current speed.. I had set cruise to 70 slowed down to 55 and as soon as i flicked up it accelerated as fast it could to get to 70 scarying the shit outta me.

I've been able to squeeze out 27-26 mpg on highway around 70mph or below.. Cityish backroad 23-25.. I haven't gotten below 22 since the beginning of winter.

Toyota engineers should analyze your truck to determine how you are getting 5 mpg more than the reported averages and way above EPA ratings.
