If money wasn't an issue, which rear suspension set up would you choose?

OK, my rear stock suspension is not cutting it any more. I know that I'll get the OME 2.75" rear leaf pack, new bushings, new u-bolts and a carrier bearing drop kit. What I don't know is what rear shocks I should go with...

I want to get something stout that will last a long time and work well with the OME spring rates. I've been leaning toward the less expensive OME shocks (rear only) but wonder if they are going to hold up well on the trails. I could get King, Fox, Icon, Bilstein or something else, but after reading a bunch of posts over the last year or so, figured I'd just throw this out there and get a bunch of opinions.

So, what do you guys think and most importantly, why? A little up/down travel would be nice, but my fronts don't have much down travel so not sure if that matters... Also, I'm not desert running it, just trails, towing and highway.

 

I'm super happy with my OME shocks. I'm sure if I was building a real OR rig I would go to something "better" (and more $) but for my needs (which sound alot like yours-Moderate OR use and some utility in a daily driver) I vote for the OMEs in the rear.

 

If money was no issue?

Long Travel with shocks through the bed and mounted to a custom-fabbed bed bar, aftermarket leaf springs built for your preference...payload or ride quality.

Talking about real life, I plan to go with Icon Remote Resis and either and AAL for the TSB leaf packs or a complete replacement with Dakars...

 

Interesting. I have the DR's on the front of the truck and wanted to go DR (Icon) on the rears. About a year ago I called several reputable shops (forum sponsors) and asked a simple question... Are the DR (Icon) rear shocks designed for a 3" lift or are they designed for the stock height and what is the appropriate spring set up to run with them. All I got was dead silence.

The thing about OME is that they're designed to run with that leaf pack which is why I was leaning towards them but at the time the springs were back ordered. I guess I really want to know if there are any advantages to choose a more expensive set up than the OME rear shocks.

AFAIK Icons are fully rebuildable, OMEs aren't, which would be one of the major advantages. Remote Resi also has its own advantages, obviously.

Being that the Icons are adjustable (much like Billie 5100s), I'm sure you can gauge them to the lift amount you want...
