Has anyone else noticed that the passenger side floor mat has no clips to keep it in place? I saw my friends 2nd gen has them like the drivers side but the 3rd gen doesn't. My girlfriend noticed they slide the first time she got in after I installed my weather techs. I was wondering if anyone else noticed and what they did to fix it just short of cutting a hole in the floor mat and zip tying it to the bottom of the seat. Why didn't Toyota keep the tabs like the drivers side?

Cause the OE mats don't really slide very easily. They are more flexible and have lots of nubbies on the back.

D/S is still there based on liability is my guess. Klutzs getting the mat jammed up under the pedals and all.

I've never personally seen the Husky brand mats, but lots of folks here like them better than WeatherTech. You might ask around and see if they don't work better.

Toyota saves a quarter on each truck for not putting them on the passenger side.

Buy Husky Liner's Weather Beaters floor liners, they don't slide around.

I would of paid the extra 50 cents for the tabs.

Same here on mine. Slip sliding away. Maybe a 2018 upgrade with the door pillar handle.

I went with the factory all weather mats and have NP at all with them staying put on pass side.
I would have gone with the weathertech I had in my previous 4R, but I found them hard to clean and maintain stain free b/c of the finish. I find the OEM rubber ones a breeze to clean, simply rinse off with soap & water.

The factory ones are OK, but in the GWT (Great White North), we get a LOT of snow and getting in and out a lot you build up quite a bunch of snow, dirt and salt and it overflows the factory mats..... Weather Tech for the winter for me.... Factory ones for summer...

I would try a couple of 1X1" velcro strips on each rear corner to keep it in place, if I needed deeper mats like the weathertech.
    Cheers!

I have the Husky Liners and they don't more at all. The passenger side factory all weather mat would move quite a bit. Much happier with the Huskys

Super annoying. My lady's 2016 4runner SR5 premium has floor mat clips on both sides as well as a gas cap holder. My 39k dollar trd OR does not have either. Yet her 4runner a "Premium" has no Auto headlamps, no push button start, no keyless "touch" door entry etc. Why is it so fucking hard for toyota to sync up between vehicle platforms on basic amenities?

The single retaining pin on the husky passenger mat is not perfect and is only a bit better than the OEM passenger mat. The husky passenger mat easily comes unsnapped when getting into the passenger side.

The husky passenger design is a single plastic pin that screws into the carpet fabric and you then slip a round recessed opening on the bottom of the mat over the pin. Flimsy at best.

I think the best solution is to find a Velcro strip that you can glue or stick to the bottom of the mat so it will grip the carpet. The soft Velcro side wouldn't work but the coarse/stiff side of the velcro that is designed to grip should hold onto the carpet pretty well. I think it is worth a shot. Could probably buy some at Michaels, Hobby Lobby or even at Wally World or Target.

Thanks for the velcro suggestion, but I could not get the velcro strip to stay glued to the OEM rubber mat using different adhesives (gorilla glue, super glue,...). The glue just peels off the rubber after a few days. I may try 3M weatherstrip adhesive.
