I've had Yakima racks on 3 cars.

Two major issues. The clamps come with adhesive pads that prevent your door jamb paint from getting scratched by he metal clamps. These wear over time and fall apart, and even still - they make scratches. Scratches make rust.

Also, the clamps can dent the metal. Hasn't happened to me, but I was in a large, national car club and in my local chapter (county) there were 3 guys who permanently damaged the door jamb/roof with the same clamps. You basically squeeze the shit out of the jamb, not sure if there are worse spots than others on the jamb for reinforcement or if manufacturing left some weaker areas, or if hashtag shit happens - but I would be raging if it was my car.

I would avoid clamps for the paint scratches alone, but dents you can't fix without welding are certainly something to avoid also.

Heavy for the hardware that is supplied.. it's nice but it is steel.. the powder coating easy to chip and then it rusts.. I like oem cause its aluminum .. it scratches but doesn't rust

    Scratches make rust.

    Rust makes rat rods.

    You've been warned.

It'll be a trail rig one day. Until then I'll just get it repainted one day if it gets to bad.

I was thinking about getting a cheap basket to go onto my oem rack.. use it when camping can keep things in it while in roof top then and can grab it out of side tent window

Had a rack on my old shell. Was wide enough for two kayaks to lay flat. OEM roof rack on truck isn't wide enough, you'd have to buy kayak racks to tip them up. On the shell they are less affected by wind. On the oem roof rack it feels like driving a kite that wants to take off.
