I bought my 3rd gen about a month ago and have been enjoying since. However I may not have purchased if I'd read this forum prior. Since reading this forum I've noticed the following...

Engine seems to make noise (only when started)

The bed of the truck keeps getting wet, mainly when driven in the rain.

Oh yeah, my main complaint is that the low fuel light keep coming on, even though I just filled it up 350 miles ago..

    WTF????

there are some "minor" issues with the 3rd gen:
Low Trans fluid, automatic trans, leading to erratic shifting(hunting), it happens less as it learns how you drive.
U-Joint zerks not lubed, like the only grease they have is the assembly grease from Spicer.
    U-Bolts, incorrect torque values.
and last but not least, it doesn't drive like the 2nd gen.(just a tiny bit of sarcasm there)

I think most people are underwhelmed by the engine that only gets it's advertised power at crazy high RPM's. You had a bit more satisfaction driving the gen 1 and 2 when a tap on the accelerator would actually pull the truck. The gen 3 pulls great at highway speeds I think, just sucks around town.*

*Talking about auto here, not manual.

Use the ECT button and it has all the power anyone requires in town or out. It does require you to drive its way, not your way; it wins all arguments. Mine has been flawless once we learned each others habits. I do 100 miles a day, 12,224 miles since 01/15/16. Its a great truck.

3500 Miles on mine so far. Got it April 1st. No issues at all. My trans never hunts, and I don't expect my taco to do 0-60 in 5 sec. I love it. I haven't taken it to get the " low trans fluid checked " cause to me it seems to be working great. If its not broken, I don't try to fix it, cause I usually break it even more haha

First of all I have had every generation of this truck and I have loved them all. I have 3rd gen now and it is one of the early ones. I have had zero problems with it.

Forgot to mention that the transmission randomly shifts at various speeds. Dealer say this is all normal. Guess I'll try and open a case with Toyota to get resolved....

    Point taken.

I was just being a little (no a lot) sarcastic as to all the bitches about the new generation. I am lucky (so far) and hope those with issues get them resolved to their satisfaction. Toyota has always been a brand known with reliability and quality. I'm confident they will continue to uphold that reputation.

I wonder if they even have a fix yet. I'm thinking about one but not for another year or 2 still, hopefully they have it sorted out by then.

Well according to majority of the people here, if have to say the biggest problem is....

Toyota building the 3rd gen. I mean all the second gen guys on here know the second gen was the best truck ever. The seconds gens didn't have any problems. EVER! Frame rot? That's because you didn't wash your truck enough or get enough mudd on the frame to protect it...

People don't seem to know how to press the ECT button. Makes a world of difference on my truck.
