    Hey everyone,

Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. My name is Justin I am currently a college student in Southern California and I recently just made a purchase on a 2016 white Trd Sport. Its hard to control my excitement and I am looking forward to learning more about the car from everyone here in addition to finding new things to do to my new truck.

I am a college student who has always been a car guy, I was very much into tuning Bmw's before this as I owned and built a 415 horsepower 135i as my previous daily driver. Went to many track days and had a lot of fun in that thing.

As time went on I started doing things with the friends and family that I was limited to because of my car. Yes it may have been fun to go fast and rush around everywhere in a small coupe, but driving up to the mountains with friends to snow board, dirt biking, transferring sports equipment to college and back, and driving with more than one other person in my car all became quite the task.

I have always fantasized about getting a tacoma, because I have felt for a long time that it was the perfect size truck for me and it would get the job done perfectly. Finally , the stars aligned and I was able to sell my BMW and put some money down on this.

Its a 2016 Super White Trd Sport 4x2 v6. Tech package with JBL Audio. Wish I could've went for the 4x4 but it unfortunately bumped in out of my price range. Still couldn't be happier!

First thing I did was put my custom plate on the back and took the front plates off. Plugged up the holes that were drilled in the front with some screw caps. Looks much better in my opinion.

With my love for modding cars I can't imagine my truck being stock for that long, but I don't know much about working on trucks so I am open to suggestions for mods, tips, and tricks from everyone here and I am looking forward to learning more about my tacoma every day. If any of you have suggestions for places to buy aftermarket parts, or the best brands to be looking for please let me know I would love the help!

I will be going up to the canyon this week or weekend and ill make sure to take some high quality pictures with the camera to post on the forum.

Looking forward to the new chapter with my new truck.

    Thanks alot!

    Justin

I know the feeling haha. Definitely fun cars but does compare to a truck in my opinion. First major difference.... I can go over speed bumps at over 10mph. What an experience ;)

One of my gfs had a m5 coupe and holy shit that thing was a monster. I honestly haven't sat so low to the ground in a while.

That said, anything in particular you are looking to do with the truck? Performance, off road capability, armor, rock sliders, a roof top tent?

How limited am I with off road capability since I got the 4x2? I know I can buy a locking diff and that will make a big difference. Pretty much for right now all I want to do is get some off road fun out of it but still keep it looking not too changed yet on the body of it. Wheels suspension etc are on the list.

Once I know where to buy a lot of the aftermarket stuff then I will be able to kind of pick and choose. In addition to being on the forum and looking at all of your builds I will definitely get ideas.

Yeah there is a plethora of info within builds, and a thread like this is where I picked ideas for my 1st gen
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-3rd-gen-today.399305/

Seriously, this place is a money pit and as a college student that's like shooting yourself in the foot while having a beer.
Is your prerunner(technically they dropped that name for 3rd gens) a TRD? Did it come with a rear locker? If it did that should suffice you enough to hit the gnars or any dirt road given you get appropriate tires.

No it comes with a limited slip diff but only the off road edition comes with a locking diff I believe.

Ah ok I forgot they changed that too. But yeah even then you'll have your limitations, just remember being 2wd you're gonna need speed, a good line, and the right approach on questionable trails.

And all I can say is - Fuck Mud.

Whats up with the black license plates making a comeback? That used to be more of a collector thing. I guess they aren't so cool/rare anymore now that CA DMV/DOT brought them back. Enjoy the new truck. Keep an eye on shifting and trans fluid may need to be checked. Search forum for this issue.

My 67 has the black as original plates.

However, now CA allows anybody with $$ to get it on any model car. So everybody is doing it. They are also bringing back the 80s Blue plate with yellow writing....

I saw that the DMV was bringing them back and I thought why not, I mean they look way better than the white in my opinion, and they are not expensive.

    Thanks!

Ill look into it, any mileage I should be worried about the trans fluid? or just a general concern?
