In case any of you missed this ^^^

    $599 for a well-rounded 3-in-1. Read up on it, it's a good little unit for the at-home fab'er.

Interesting but expensive. Good for someone doing light welding here and there and nothing to serious.

It's the same as another brand from Europe (I forget the name) but that brand seems to get good reviews for their units.

I'm sure it's got a small target market though.

If I had that much money to blow on needless things I would put one in my trailer toolbox for my trail rig just in case.

I would be curious to see what the output time is off the battery at like 100amps .

Could one really complete an emergency repair enough to get back to a road

I'm going off memory but when they tried them where I work (instead of running 440v everywhere just to weld a hanger) they lasted 30-45 minutes of weld time. Our welders didn't like them but they are a spoiled bunch anyways

Pic dump of today's progress that was made. The smaller "e"s were crucial I think in helping me adjust. I also took the machine off the "automatic" settings and adjusted wire speed and amps based off the inside flap. From there I adjusted the amps down since it was burning through the metal, and adjusted it to what I thought looked correct (I may still be a little off though).

Just so ya know I was just poking fun. Like you said some never pay their dues but I've worked with plenty who have done some pretty amazing things and saved pipe fitters and ship fitters butts on more than one occasion. Then welding joints and seals that will get pt/vt/rt it's hard to not have them want perfect conditions

So, I only got to spend about 15 minutes trying out the gas set up today, and what a difference! why didnt anyone tell me how shitty flux core wire was!!! (jk)

This is ER70S-6 .030 Solid wire with 75/25 shield gas on 1/8" coupons, pushing technique. The Millermatic 141 was set to 6/65 (amps/wire speed). (I do not know what 6 equates to amps yet but its outa 10, and I need to see what 65 equates to with the whole 6 second test and adding the zero for inches/minute)

Took time to polish the metal....something I did only once with Flux Core (although I do think it actually made a good difference for that too). Top is the before, bottom is the after.

Both cleaned (used a DeWalt 4.5" grinder with a flap disc on it. (I know I didnt get quite all of it polished but I didnt care, they were test runs.)

    And the race was on. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(DCEP)****

close up of the left side. This was my first pass from right to left.

Flipped the piece over to start again, right to left.

Far left close up of the last 2 passes

    Comparison from flux to gas

I will say, I am glad I first tried Flux since it gave me a lot to focus on getting some of the basics down. Im sure the gas welds are no where near perfect but this was all within 15 min of hookin it up and trying it. I still got some kinks to work out with the speed/amps ratio but its getting there.

    Critiques are welcome.

Here's a frame I made for work. That's my partner beveling with a torch.

I've got to make a flanged gusset tonight still. I'll try and get some pictures of the welds.

Don`t pay attention to the numbers they can be so very different for so many reasons .

Unless you have your welder calibrated and certified

Go by the way the weld sounds and looks .

    True that.

Once you nail it with sound and look, try it with just sound. You will be surprised how nice of welds you can do just by the sound.

I get bored at times and will run 2 welders, one in each hand. You can't watch both, but you can hear the welds just fine.

Of course this is optimal bench work. A person wont be upside down under a garbage truck doing this.
