4wd without a doubt. Forget the 2wd in your situation.

Plenty of guys on here regret not getting 4wd.

Its a truck , get 4wd. Do you really want to be in a situation where you get stuck because you didnt have 4wd, kinda embarrassing.

Both of them have premium tech. I'm not sure how Arizona operates, but around here, you pay sales tax, title, and registration on used vehicles as well as new.

I can't find any concrete information on the new 8.75" BD22A/N, but the fact that there are a locking and non-locking version tells me that it's available in more than just the Off Road model.

FTLTrucks claims the 8.75 rear ends are only on the 4.30 geared Tacomas (Manual Transmission V6. Automatic I4).

This is just like the not so long ago question raised here: To get to LA I can use my Ford Pinto, who needs a Mercedes?

There are several threads on TW where this topic is discussed at length. Do some searching.

Speculation on a public forum is not reliable information. If you care to enlighten me, I would be more than happy. If not, there's no need to be a smart ass.

This question reminds me of something Jeremy Clarkson said to justify the tech in the Land Rover Discovery that also applies here.

    Roughly paraphrased:

"My watch is waterproof up to 100 meters. I'm not a professional diver and will never go that deep, but it's nice to know it will work if I leave it on while washing the dishes."

Well I owned a 4wd Tundra for 15 yrs. The first few years of ownership I'd ride on the beach and either fish or just watch. My grandfather use to love to ride with me. Well the town decided to start charging for driving on the beach, not much.. $12 for the day or $200/yrs I think and sadly, my grandfather died and that pretty much ended my 4x4 needs. The last 10 years of of that truck's ownership consisted of just 2wd action.

    Hence, I bought a 2wd Limited. I

Okay well after looking at the Toyota official option list, TRDOR is the only one that has available locking rear diff, and the only one with the bigger rear end in automatic trans. Check out this thread, it's filled with people upset that this fact wasn't disclaimed or advertised, and a bunch of people were left wishing they got the TRDOR.

Thank you. Here is the same guy saying that the M/T versions as well as the TRD OR A/T have the 8.75" rear. This is why I'd like to see a Toyota spec sheet (which I can't find) before I believe what I read on the forum.

Yep, sorry I wasn't considering M/T's when I was doing this research originally (my local dealer only ordered A/T trucks, so I did my research on A/T before buying). It's kinda BS that this info isn't readily available from Toyota in their catalog or spec lists.

All good. I'd really like to find an official spec list because I'm seriously considering a 3rd gen and I'd rather have the larger rear end, but I don't necessarily want another TRD OR. If I can get it in the TRD Sport M/T, I'd be a happy camper.

Searching for my 2016 TRD Sport
Well I actually went and test drove a 4x4 DCSB OR yesterday. First, I checked for the vibrations. The steering wheel started to buzz around 2k RPM. Not unbearable but I was only in the truck for about 10 minutes, don't know how my longer commutes are going to feel about that. To get the 4x4 its going to cost me about 4k more than the 2wd I've already ordered through another dealership (no commitment). Its also the OR over the Sport, and has the Tonneau cover.

I basically need to decide if I want the extra options (Premium, Tech & JBL) or if I want 4x4 to fit my price range. Sucks, the one I test drove was near perfect. So I have about a week or so to decide.

My other dilemma is to go for the 4x4 on the Sport or OR . That crawl control looks beastly on youtube videos. But then I like the lower price (barely), hood scoop, and wheels on the sport.

If it helps sway you one way or the other, the Crawl Control is a cool novelty, but I've done quite a bit of off roading with my TRDOR and it isn't useful to me. I've only used it at all to say "hey guys check it out, crawl control!". Lol.

Yep, a M/T would be a lot of fun considering the trans on the A/T is so shifty. At first I hated the way my truck shifts, now I'm getting used to it.

You're really buying the OR over the Sport for the rear locking differential. Crawl control is cool... its been around in Toyota and Lexus vehicles for a while and works somewhat well. But the real appeal to the OR is a factory locking diff. Which in a pinch can be a lifesaver.
