Your fuelly says right at 19, 19 is not bad especially with some off roading included

Again a small sample combined with your conjecture which tells us close to nothing.

MPG continues to improve. Pic from my commute this AM. I have gone from getting 17-18 when new on my commute to routinely 21-22 now with about 6k miles.. Driving the same way. And yes Smtty I have a Fuelly account ;)

Fuelly account is under the same name, melikeymybeer. Actually it tells you I got 24.2 mpg in 15.7 miles ;). Fuelly average is like 19.2 and climbing. My first tank on Fuelly was 16ish cuz of offroad and towing that's dragging my average down some. But you'll see my trend is definitely up. Solid 20 mpg average last 4 tanks. I'll take that for combined.

Dents in roof from poorly loaded canoe. Broken side mirror from blown transfer truck tire. Scuffed up front bumper from thinking I was still in a corolla. Graham cracker embedded upholstery from a crazy kid.
I'm only at 1400 miles, but I'm getting 20-24 mpg per tank. My city mileage is pretty low, usually 15-17, but my highway mileage is around 25. I don't drive like a granny, but I've been watching my speed and keeping it at a steady 65 mph or so. The biggest variable is that I'm using ethanol free gas for my last two fill ups. My latest fill up is 93 octane ethanol free. We will see if I can eek out a couple extra miles.

Man you guys that live in flat areas are lucky. I couldn't do better than 14.5. I am now at (after wheels and tires) 13.5 50/50, lots of 0 to 800ft elevation changes. TRD 4x4 DC Short Bed.

What I find most disconcerting is that the 2nd Gens in many years are averaging about the same gas mileage as the 3rd gen. So it was really just smoke and mirrors that Toyota pulled over on the EPA to appear that they designed a vehicle that would net improved fuel economy in benefit to conservation. BUT overall in reality it is not performing any better than previous model years. At the same time the design implications came at the detriment of drivability for the consumer.

My '16 gets considerably less mileage than my '11 dclb 4.0 auto 4x4 , my '12aclb 4.0 6 speed manual 4x4 , and sadly it gets worse than my 94 dx pickup with a 3.0 and 5 speed 4x4
Those 3 all averaged 19-20 mpg consistently
Where my gutless wonder 3.5 gets 15-17 usually

Combo of Hwy/City miles, 36 miles from yesterdays post, 71-72 mph on interstate with cruise on going slightly uphill, 285 miles on the current trip meter with 3/8 of a tank left. :notsure:

So some data from Fuelly for V6 only:

    Year. AC CC
    2016 19.01 18.65
    2015. 17.30 18.00
    2014. 17.50. 18.00

I think it's interesting the way the AC and DC have flipped from 2015 to 2016. I suspect there may be just an insufficient sample size yet for the 2016 :burp:

I avg 20mpg from a 240mile trip, 65mph-72mph no cruise. i think if i cruise at a constant 65mph-70mph i can get 21+ easy. I realize if you take time to slowly learn where the sweet spot is for gas pedal it helps!

Another useless post that shows nothing of substance except conjecture. Post your fuelly numbers so we can see what you're really getting.

Your numbers are skewed but his are legit because he says he gets better mpg when he off roads and that brings his all around numbers down. He is one miserable person just jealous that others are happy.

Feelings have nothing to do with facts. Facts and data are what we are here for. Not rainbows, unicorns and pixie farts. My average numbers are tracking with what is showing on Fuelly... Based on data from 190 vehicles, 2,662 fuel-ups and 770,721 miles of driving, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma (3.5L) gets a combined Avg MPG of 18.76 with a 0.11 MPG margin of error. Now if that isn't a better representation of facts than a snapshot from somebody's gauge cluster on a single tank of gas, I guess I don't know what to tell you.

Tell us about the hundreds of miles on the rugged Arizona trail that don't bring your numbers down but actually improve your mileage. One trip a week four wheeling is enough to bring your mileage down to where it is. Show your facts.

I agree but would also argue that the fuelly numbers are slightly low since folks include mileage from offroad and towing. I know you get better mileage off road but most of us do not. I also agree it's a good way to compare model years.
