I'm almost done reading this entire thread. Now I just need to start saving for stuff. Probably figure out an fj case and crawl box first.

I've always used a plasma to cut the holes in the frame. I like doing that better than risking my hand/wrist/arm being rolled up by a stuck drill bit causing the drill to twist up faster than I can let go of the trigger.

I would be more focused on getting the draglink in the proper spot so it doesn't hit your tie rod and what not. Its much easier to hack apart and reinforce your core support then to move the steering box after everything is welded on.

So glad im going with a forward swing!!

Building the axle... When we put the spindle on without bolting and torquing down, the pinion spins freely and everything is good but the axle shaft can't move back and forth much at all. When we torque it down the pinion gets in a bind and is very hard to move and the axle shaft can't move at all. Think my axle shafts could be too long? Or something else?

it acts like the brass bushing in the spindle is too tight around the birfield when it gets pushed all the way on which creates tension between the two. should the brass bushing be able to go all the way up to the birfield joint rather freely?

Are they stock birfs? You may have to clearence the inside of the knuckle ball if not. I would go searching or asking on marlins board or even pirate, TW is good for learning how to put chicken wire in place of your stock grill, not good for mini truck axle tech.

they're longfield TG birfs. we clearanced the knuckleball a little but like i said the only time that it binds up is when the spindle gets completely bolted down. I'm going to bet that the damn bushing is too tight around the birfield so that when the spindle gets pushed on its contacting it instead of being clearanced like .004" or whatever it is.
