those 2 little threaded holes in the front of your bed...

Put a d ring in the middle of the floor up front with a nice backing plate under the bed.

I understand the 'cris-cross' thing. But I only haul bicycles, so I used a cleat in the center of the front rail. Makes securing them much easier than weaving through spokes, around tires, etc.

 

Finally! someone who understands. It's not a necessity - obviously I did it on my 2nd gen many many times, but looking at those 2 empty threaded holes would be perfect if there was a D-ring there, for a tie down point.

Attached is a picture of a bed buddy with a middle tie down point. I'm trying to achieve this by using the 2 threaded holes in the bed.

 

I would put a d ring on center thread for the rail before I used the tonneau threads

 

If you do something like that with a bracket to mount one ring I would that that would work. I thought you wanted 1 ring per thread

 

Its all mounted to the same stuff. That top rail with 2 screw holes is mounted by the same screws that you remove and put back in through the 2nd gen front rail. Same 5 or 6 bolts. Your not gaining or loosing any strength if you mount something to those 2 holes other than your bracket wont get loose and slide.

 

I know it's all the same bar. Just wondering if those threads are strong enough to use as a tie down point.

 

I want 4 of the tie down hooks that are in the front bottom of the bed....The silver tie down loops....Anybody have any idea what they are called?

I want to mount 2 more above the existing ones and also 2 more in the back near the rear glove boxes.

That and the bed buddy would be PERFECT for me..

EXCEPT, I have a cover which that vertical loop in the middle of the bar would be the problem.

 

So turn it upside down.

The two threaded holes are not strong enough. if you could mount up a tie point utilizing BOTH threaded connection...maybe.

I had a bed buddy mounted in my gen 1 Tacoma, mounted upside down so i could still put on a camper shell. worked great. Having the center tiedown point facing downwards had no effect on the functionality. Will be mounting the bed buddy in the Gen 3 shortly.

Still cannot find a bed extender that will accommodate two bikes though. Waiting for AMP.

 

Reviving a bit of an old thread here, but does anybody know the bolt/thread size of these two holes?

Motorcycle holding-strength aside, I want a D ring there for mountain bikes.

 

probably not very helpful but it's the same bolt that the front rails use.

 

In my search I came across another thread with a post that claimed they are a standard M6 bolt. Time to go to the hardware store and confirm or deny that rumor.

 

I am looking for a tie down bar that will fit with my Tonneau cover, and came across this thread. Just curious if the problem was ever solved?

Have you thought of L-track? They make some small ones that would probably fit there if it is strong enough, or you could mount it slightly lower (possibly using the bolt hole that is right beneath and in the middle of those two holes) with a backing plate with something like these

Those threaded holes look and feel like nut-serfs to me. No way to know if they reinforced that square tube before they inserted them. My own got us some solid aluminum machined t-nuts that fit the side (and front) rails. That might be a better way to go, distributing the force all the way across the front of the bed.

What are the thread size for these holes? Same as the others in the bed (m6 1.25?)??

 

I did just this, but I ride a MC also. But would not trust it for that. I am only going to trust it for a tie down for a mtn bike or a bed net. Here is the pic of what I did...I found the SS hook at a local hardware store, bent it just a touch to spread it to the right width, installed a few washers behind it to take up the extra room and I believe it is M6 SS socket head cap screws that I used. I also used med strength locktite.

 

I can confirm M6 fits nicely
