Only the maglight mod, mounted on floor drivers side, billet antenna and have lined all storage under rear seats with rubber to keep the rattling to a minimum.
Here's a new one on me. Got in earlier to run to the burger place and I couldn't move the shifter all the way to the right to put it in reverse. It would stop hard right before the slot to drop it to reverse. I had the brake pressed so that wasn't it. Couldn't figure it out so I popped the tab to access the override, pressed it and I was able to put it in reverse. I could shift to any other gear with no problem. After returning home I put it in park and tried again to go to reverse, same deal! What the hell?!?! Any clues?

Check to see if the brake lights are coming on when you press the brake pedal. What activates the Shift Lock Solenoid to unlock is the brake switch. If it isn't working the symptoms are just as you described.

The brake switch is down on the pedal bracket under the dash.

Any light on or anything not working? As JimmyH said, check brake lights. If there are other issues (radio not working, or something else not working), check IGN 1 & 2 fuses under the dash.

Everything else works fine. Only other issue I've noticed in the last 3 days is when my a/c is running sometimes it stops blowing in the fans second speed. I bump it up to full speed and it blows again in all speeds. Not sure if this means the motor is going out or not but that's the only other thing messing up.

Well the brake lights at defenitely out. image.jpgSo does this mean I need to replace the switch? If so is it something I can do on my own or does it require resetting the ecu?

I replaced the switch and of course I was expecting to shift right in to gear. NOPE!!! Now what?! Switch was $45 at auto zone and it took 20 seconds to swap but now i'm lost as to why this is happening! Help! I have my inspection this month so I need to fix this.

Taking a shot in the dark here, but is there a plunger on the switch that isnt being depressed when you press the pedal?

Ive had that happen on some other cars of mine, dunno how they work on the Tacoma's..

I think he mentioned that he put on a whole new switch, so I think that would be a brand new plunger too.

I meant on the brake pedal lever itself. My civic had a similar problem that where the plunger contacted the lever the plunger just went through the pedals because the plug fell out.

The switch is actually pressed when the brake is resting. When you press the brake the switch opens which I would assume let's the ecu know the brake is pressed. New switch in and checked for brake pedal slack, but that's good too.

One fuse was bad under the hood. The STOP 10 A fuse. Replaced it and checked every fuse associated with brake lights and the shift lock. Still won't shift out of park without the override. :notsure:

:censored::censored::censored::censored::frusty: This crap is pissing me off!! OK, now I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes and reconnected it. Still not shifting out of park!
Recap, won't shift out of park w/o using override, replaced brake switch and nothing, changed bad 10A fuse nothing, disconnected battery for 10 minutes nothing! Oh FYI forgot to mention, the only thing that's changed in the last week is that I swapped the third brake light out for a plug and play LED. Everything was working fine after that for a week until last night. That couldn't have caused this could it? I made sure the connection was good and even taped the connection with electrical tape since it was a little sloppy. What the f**k now?:help:

I've had weird grimlins with my truck. Sometimes I had other stuff not working, sometimes just couldn't get it out of park. Each time, it was one of the IGN fuses (IGN, IG1, IG1 No. 2)

I've checked all those fuses you mentioned and they're all good. Which is why i'm lost. I'm banging my head on the wall now. Really wanna stay away from the dealership if I can.
