Before I get all paranoid and take the truck in to the dealership, is anyone else noticing a high pitched whining / whirring sound coming from their rig. I've only notice this in the past 1-2 weeks. Took me a bit to recognize that it was not in the music I was listening to. My truck has 8K km on it, and recently had 1st service completed. I figured out the noise was not my music the day after I took it in.

Seems to happen most frequently in 2nd or 3rd gear, at 2000 to 3000 rpm, and speeds around 60 - 70 kph. Happens on both acceleration and deceleration, but of course inconsistently.

Anyone experiencing same / similar? Anyone have any insight as to what it might be?

    thanks in advance!

I get that as well. I think it's a rear end whine

Same, I don't notice it unless my rear seats are folded flat so it's really minor. Some have had the rear diff and/or gears replaced but there's sounded much worse than what I have.

I grew up riding in the back of an FJ40 that had a driveline whine. My 2002 Tacoma M/T has a driveline whine. I certainly hope Toyota maintained the driveline whine in the 2016's M/T.

Mine has had a slight whine between 90-100 km/h upon decel/coast since new. It hasn't gotten any worse, so I'm not losing my mind over it. 8000km on the rig.

Yeah, I shoulda mentioned that. I found a similar thread and checked my levels as well - all good.

There's also a thread on checking your U-joints (lubricate them!) if you've not seen that yet.

    No sir.

It's just something I remembered from the last time I touched my truck

I get a weird very high pitched pinging/whining noise or something sometimes. Its really odd, I'm not sure if that is what you are talking about.

My last truck had a full on failed pinion bearing so I am very familiar with the whirring sound that makes as it slowly eats itself up. This doesn't sound like that did (thankfully).

I have an auto but.....my rear diff was replaced at 500ish miles, didn't have hardly any fluid in it. New diff, 0 noise.
